When I first joined OS back in September 2002, sports gaming was at its peak. The one thing that existed back then that doesn't exist now was variety. They were about five or six licensed NFL games, three licensed NCAA football games, five licensed NBA games, three licensed NCAA basketball games, plus five licensed MLB games. Fast forward to 2011, and there is now only one licensed NFL and NCAA football game, one licensed NBA game (that actually gets released), one licensed NHL game (that actually ... Read More

Ever have one of those days when you go to bed really early only to way up at like 4 something wandering around your house aimlessly like a hopeless insomniac? Well, I'm having one of those days. After browsing the internet for an half hour, I decided to get out of the warm bed and go down to my cold, drafty basement to get some NBA 2K11 in.

I played a quick NBA Today game of Celtics - Pacers (the NBA Today for Dec 20 hadn't updated yet). Since I was using the Celtics, I decided ... Read More

Let me get this out of the way first: I am not a baseball guy. In fact, I couldn't name off 20 MLB players' full names and positions if you paid me, yet every year I have the latest edition of MLB: The Show in my library. It's not that I hate baseball; I think it's a fun sport to play. It's just too boring for me to watch on a consistent basis. The only time I really get excited enough to watch baseball is during the playoffs, and even then, that's assuming there is nothing else more interesting ... Read More

DISCLAIMER: These following views, observations, and opinions are not a result of me not being good at the game. I have owned 16 (count 'em 16) basketball titles from the 2K lineup starting with NBA 2K2, and every NBA and College Hoops game they have released ever since. These are just parts of the game that I felt were tuned to the disadvantage for the user in certain instances to make the game more of a challenge. While I appreciate a challenging game, I dislike it when the game is manipulated ... Read More

I have been a member on OS for 8 years now. I first joined the site back in 2002 when it was still in its infancy. I found the website through a Google search while looking for a website dedicated to sports gaming - my favorite genre of video games at the time. NBA 2K3 was on the verge of release, and thus the game that would begin the 2K Brand's dominance in the basketball video game market (and sports video gaming for that matter).
Over the years, I've noticed how most of the NBA 2K games

One of the most skewed aspects of basketball video games is field goal percentages. Players use field goal percentages as the main determining factor when deciding if a game is considered "sim" or not. The one thing that is missed when you only look at field goal percentages is how evaluating how each shot played out. Was every shot clear path dunks and layups or open jumpers? Of course if they were, then that leads to higher field goal percentages.

Now, I'm not a guy who likes ... Read More
