WEEKLY RECAP
A surprisingly strong offensive showing from the Cubs as they scored as many runs as in their previous 7 games. But the game against Atlanta nearly started a real losing skid. By 9th inning the Cubbies were down 1-6 and, had it not been for Lee's and Soriano's two solo shots in the 9th, it could have gone on to a losing streak. But Lou Pinella shook the team up a lil' bit and they were back strong for the divisional rivalry vs. the Reds. 9-4 is a score to be proud of, and both Ryan Dempster and Kevin Gregg pitched solid 9 innings. Cubbies hold on, and next games against Astros and Twins will show whether they can keep this offensive production going on.
CUB OF THE WEEK
Alfonso Soriano had 4 hits, 5 RBI's and two homers in this offensive week. He's leading the league in HR's and he is quickly becoming a franchise player for the Cubs, not that much of his fielding, simply because he doesn't have to get involved that much, being a LF, but of his superior slugging percentage: 1.136! Note that he's not a 3., 4. or 5. man in the batting lineup. He is first and that makes people not expect that he has value as a slugger. He has proven them wrong many times this season, and it just keeps on getting better.
