RECAP
A very fun way to begin the season. The Australian Grand Prix could have easily already been the most unpredictable and fun race of the season. Thanks to the conditions for that. Half of the qualifying was sunny and that's when the fastest lap times came in. The qualifying saw lots of surprises come in; The Prost drivers Iceshore and Panis qualified 6 and 7, respectively. The Minardi drivers, however, posted the biggest surprise, qualifying 12 and 13, eclipsing drivers like Fissichella, de la Rosa and Zanardi. The race was chaotic, to say the least. Half of the drivers had soft tires on them, the other half - intermediates. The only driver who really struggled with the setup was the rookie Icshore, who apparently had a difficult time controlling the car. He crashed on lap two, after dropping 13 places from the start. The intermediate tires were undoubtedly no made for him. He just couldn't go as fast as he would have liked. Micheal Schumacher took the win this time and is showing strong intent. Mika Hakkinen looked certain for the 2nd place, at least, until he spun in 4th lap. Rubens Barichello overtook him and stood in 2nd until the end of the race. A chaotic Grand Prix like this one always sets up a fun season.
