WEEKLY RECAP

A poor offensive showing barely gave a win for the Cubbies over the struggling Pirates. But they couldn't pull the same 1-run victory over the Dodgers as their offense had been excelent. Only 3 runs in 19 innings. Bad, to say the least. But a high point came in the 10th inning win over the Pirates as Carlos Zambrano FINALLY took his first win of the season. It was a fine showdown between pitchers, as both of them played the entire 10 innings. Soriano capped the game with an RBI double to send none other than Zambrano himself for the winning run. Now, against the Dodgers, most of the defense struggled heavily and the pitchers weren't shining either. The most disastrous play came in late, when the Cubs were down 2-4 in the 9th inning. Reed Johnson missed a point blank catch in the center field and two runs got batted in. 4(!) errors for the Cubs that game. A bad defensive show that time, and manager Lou Pinella won't be happy.

Cub of the week
Carlos Zambrano put in an impressive showing in his first win of the season as he had only 2 hits against him for the entire 10 innings. After a poor game vs. Dodgers for 3 different pitchers, Carlos was easily our choice for the Cub of the week.
