QUALIFYING RECAP

A rather boring qualifying session with no visible surprises. Michael Schumacher claimed his 4th pole in 4 races, although his nemesis Mika Hakkinen cut it very close this time, losing by just 0.072 of a second to Schumacher. But still 4 poles are impressive and Schumacher is definitely looking to break Nigel Mansell's record of 14 poles in a season. It wouldn't be easy but Schumi is undoubtedly ready for this challenge.

RACE RECAP

The race day saw David Coulthard win an absolute jaw-dropper of a race. What makes it even more remarkable is that the conditions weren't crazy at all. The sun was shining and everyone believed that there would be no contest to Schumacher's supremacy after taking the pole. Instead the fans had a crazy amount of fun. Drivers/Teams...not so much. 12 of the 22 cars retired and only Jordan managed to bring both cars home today. But what's amazing is that Michael Schumacher actually crashed 2 times to drop to 5th place after a pitstop whilst leading the race for 4 laps. It was unbelievable, and most of the F1 world probably fell off their chairs in surprise. But the podium places were taken by two unusual guests; Prost's Mike Iceshore, who drove an excellently calm race to finish second despite losing his front wing with 3 laps to go; he was 25 seconds off Coulthard; and Alessandro Zanardi who managed to bring his Williams in 3rd, which was quite a surprise, as he qualified only 10th. 4th was Wurz, 5th - Schumacher and the last point was taken by Frentzen. A crazy race, but one that will be remembered for many years to come.
