NBA2K11 Wishlist
Posted on May 14, 2010 at 04:51 PM.
It's that time again where we start to look forward to the next installment of NBA 2K, and we all have ideas on what would make the game better for our own personal experience. Here's a couple of mine...

Uniform Styles

An addition that anyone who utilizes the games pool of Legends has been waiting for. Era specific uniform styles for the 90's and 80's-70's. Selecting the style would be done through the Team Options screen before a game.

Continuing to Expand the library of throwback uniforms would go hand-in-hand with this new feature. Like those great Phoenix Suns uniforms from 1993, or the Mutombo era Hawks, and finding a way to get the Seattle SuperSonics back in the game.

Crowd Reaction

I love how 2K10 has the crowd stand for the final 2 minutes of a game, but let's take a look at the crowd's reaction to it's home team hitting the game winning shot at the buzzer...

Granted, it's a small gif, but you can tell as it loops around that there is absolutely no change in the crowd. They cheer, wave their arms, pump their fists, and even do the cabbage patch, the entire time. It takes away from what should be a great experience in these games. If the score is tight and clock is ticking down, the crowd should be watching nervously. If a home team hits a game winning shot, the arena should explode! The crowd should go from watching to jumping up and down going crazy. The perfect model for this is Lebron James' game winner against the Magic during the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals.

The other side of the coin is of course the home team losing at the buzzer. In 2K10 the crowd simply stop cheering and sit down. What are they sitting back down for? Ha, they should remain standing and show their disappointment.

Timeout Playbook

Speaking of buzzer beaters and end of game situations, it's all too rushed as it is now. You're not allowed to bring up the play-call screen until your players are on the floor, then by the time everyone gets set to run the screens involved, you're down to a second left. During a timeout you should be presented with a number of plays in diagram form. Once you've chosen the play, everyone would get into starting positions before the ref hands over the ball to begin his count.

Gameplay

Clicking the Left Stick to go into a post-up/protective dribble. If done while on the move, there should be a smooth transition. This would of course take the place of the awful auto-post.

Create A Player

• A slider based system for Body Types, instead of presets.

• More in between options for Skin Color and Hair Color.

• A big reason CAPs have looked relatively the same is that there is only 1 texture, and all we do is move around the features. Take a page out of Top Spin's book by creating several different skin/facial textures to choose from.

• More hair, eyebrow, and facial hair options. Noticeably absent for those of us who create legend rosters, are fades; of the high and low top variety.

• Transparency sliders for short hair, facial hair, and tattoos.

• The ability to customize attire for Home and Away.

• More accessories. A couple different goggle styles, from the sleek look of today to the bulky versions of Horace Grant and James Worthy. Jordan-style Calf sleeves.

• A Celebration panel, much like how the Dunk package was expanded. Possible sections would included Field Goal, Dunk/Layup, Three pointer, And 1, Game Winner. With maybe 5 open slots for each, possibly a couple more for Field Goal. Each section would have "random" as the default selected, for those that don't want to bother with it.

Replay

• Remove the strict invisible wall around the court, let the camera back up into the crowd and anywhere in the arena.

• Let the camera go all the way to the ground, instead of just chest-high.

• Stop making saved replays default to the low resolution player models, which ruins created player's faces.

Blacktop Mode

• Make Created Players eligible to participate in the Dunk Contest.

• Let the players actually wear their number & team jerseys.

• The ability to choose any arena in the game as the location for each event.

So there's just a couple areas I'd like to see touched upon in 2K11, what's on your wishlist?

Much like your vids, the post is right on point. I would like to see these and a more robust CAP. I would love to have a CAP in place much like there is in MLB the Show. The variety that can be had is more rewarding than what we currently have in 2K.

definitely have the uniform types, we've been needing this for awhile

Solid blog, I agree. Old school players need old school gear.

Good list! They also need to update the player models. As you said in your post allow for more variety with a slider system, much like the old 2K basketball games. The current player model they use, not gay, but the players have no butt or hips. Looks rather odd and it makes the uniforms fit funny. Not to mention the player models are still slightly bulky looking, especially in the leg area. It would help if the player's feet were relative to their size. Also, not every player in the league where ultra baggy uniforms. They're not snug, with the exception of D. Howard and LBJ, but they are less baggy than they are in the current game. Different uniform options would be cool.

1. Make classic championship teams available with appropriate logos and courts. College Hoops 2k8 did a fantastic job of this as you can purchase team pennants which would unlock classic teams. I don't want to go to 2k Share and download the 1991 Chicago Bulls where they will play at the United Center. Instead old courts such as Chicago Stadium, The Great Western Forum, and The Boston Garden should be able to be selected along with historical teams.

2. Now that the 2000s are over I think it is time to include the All 2000s team to be selected as a classic team. We have had the same all decade teams since 2001.

3. I do the Playoffs mode because I am simulating a run with the Cavs. It does not have as robust of a stat tracking mode as featured in the Association and it is not as dynamic either. While it does track statistics it is very tedious to filter though especially if you are looking at individual statistics. For example, if I want to check who is leading the Playoffs in Rebounds per Game I have to go to the Individual stats and then filter it out team-by-team. It should all be in one list with all of the players included.

Another gripe I have is how the NBA 2k10 treats Playoff games as if they are the first game of the regular season. For example during Playoff games I get a Halloween themed overlay where the announcer will say something like: "Come join us on October 31 as the Spurs and Mavericks play game 2 of their first round series." It is as if the game thinks it is game one of the regular season instead of a playoff series. None of the stat overlays are relevant to the simulated NBA Playoffs and I don't need to see or hear about last year's stats during Playoff series either. The announcing should be dynamic with appropriate commentating that refers to the prior game as is done in the Association.

These are very particular gripes that are relatively minor in what I consider to be a fantastic game. I am just a stickler for presentation and I am a big fan of the history of the game.

Better shoes selective. Like how nba live have theirs. We (2ksports) need that too.

# 9 chunt04 @ May 16
Crowd reaction would be great, and I definitely agree with the need for a deeper create-a-player, better accessories (and uniform options), and the removal of the auto-post up

Something I forgot to mention is a huge problem with 2K10's CAP system, you can't move the top starting point of the nose where it meets the brow. It's stationary and you have to build around it, which results in having the face lower on the head in order to compensate and not have the eyes higher than that point.

All your ideas are perfect, some of the best I've heard. And with Crews the 3 different style jerseys/shorts could do alot of help, plus allow teams to create their own logos.

And please make create a player for My Player mode something like this!!!!!!!!

I agree with everything you've said. As you mentioned Blacktop mode, I would like to add that it would be nice to integrate this mode somehow into NBA Today. It would be nice to see this mode expanded on as it has been slacked on since the end of 24/7 mode. You spoke about old skool jerseys and uniforms... This would be something great to impliment for blacktop aswell.

Again great post.

Authentic Arena announcers

I think they need to give us the substitution screen before each quarter starts and the subs we make there will be in at the start of the quarter instead of having to pause before the quarter starts and make the subs we want.

Also they need to change all of the sub screens to where you can just highlight a position and press left or right on the pad to scroll thru the available subs. Just like the "on the fly" sub screen in game...this is so much faster than picking a person then scrolling down and swapping him out. When you want to swap out multiple players this can be a task...but the on-the-fly way of doing it is clearly more effective.

Also make the cpu AI play better off the ball defense...as is, it's a little to easy for both the cpu and the user to get scores in the paint.
