Whos Your MLB Surprises and Dissapointments?
Posted on May 26, 2009 at 08:48 PM.
Every year there is someone who surprises everyone with their ability. Last year it was definetly Cliff Lee. There are let downs too i would say last years biggest dissapointment was prolly Andruw Jones. Im talking about this year now though. I know most of you are prolly thinking Zack Grienke duh. Well i have a few others that i think are surprises as well as dissapointments.

My Top 3 Surprises:
1. Zack Grienke (of course lol)
2. Adam Jones (this guys been amazing and hes only like 23)
3. Jason Bay (i know everyone knows him and he has been a all star, but i would ve never thought he would be playing THIS good. he hit like 21 homers last year his career high is 31 i think hes on pace to break that by a mile)

My Top 3 Dissapointments:
1. Matt Holliday (i dont think 30 homers and 20 steals are happening unless hes traded)
2. Lastings Milledge (he prolly was overrated but he had a great season last year and hes still young i was expecting 20 homers and 20 steals at least this year idk if he will be back in the majors if hes not traded this year)
3. Jose Lopez (one of the most frustrating 2b i have ever watched he was a great player then he stunk then he was good again they said he was bad because of personal issues, but now hes not hitting the ball out of the infield i was expecting a solid 275-280 15-20 homers and he is still young so i thought some growth should be expected, but now hes lookking like he may even move to 3B when beltre walks next year)

wat are your guys opinions?????

My top 3 surprises-
1. Raul Ibanez- he's is a prime example of how much it matters what park you play in. Although, the way he's swinging the bat, it wouldn't matter where he was playing. His homeruns would be down a bit, but he would still be hitting well....he's been a machine.

2. Johnny Cueto- I knew he had good stuff but I thought he was still a year or so away. He's really pitched well and Mario Soto has a lot to do with his success.

3. Andruw Jones- This may be a sentimental pick because I always liked him, but for as bad as he was last year, he has been a surprise to me. He's mainly playing against lefties so he's not gonna get the At Bats to get much attention, but I think he is a big key to the Rangers success. If he can hit for some power and drive in some runs, that is a big plus for them. Going in to the season, Murphy was going to be their everyday guy, but he's struggled and Marlon Byrd is no threat with his bat. Jones could really give the Rangers a huge boost if he can maintain.

Top 3 disappointments-

1. Grady Sizemore- what's happened here?? Big reason the Indians are struggling. .230 isn't going to cut it out of the 1 hole.

2. Manny Ramirez- everyone knows why he is a disappointment.

3. Jay Bruce- his numbers are misleading. He's hit for some power, but again, .230-.240 just isn't good enough out of the top of the lineup. I'm a big Reds fan so I had a lot of confidence in Bruce coming into this year. He's young, I know, but he gets so off balanced in the box and swings at bad pitches which result in weak outs and he strikes out too much. He's got a lot of talent, but so far I be seen nothing more than another Adam Dunn.

You had a good list too. I wondered big time what Matt Holliday was doing when he signed with the A 's. He went from the best hitters park in baseball to one of the worst. I mean, he was setting himself up for the question of "how good was he, really??" I'm sure many scouts are wondering this. Was he one of those guys that would only be good in Denver??

My asst baseball coach in college played with Dave Henderson when Hindu did a rehab stint. He told us that Hindu said the same thing about Wade Boggs. Hindu said had Boggs not had the short wall in left, he wouldn't be a HOF'r. Some guys just play well in certain parks, just like Holliday. I think he made a bad move.
