Pujols and the 10-Year Contract
Posted on April 29, 2012 at 03:11 PM.
Albert Pujols, the new LAA first baseman. He's expected to bring a stellar average (.327 career), monster power numbers (462 doubles;445 homeruns), a strong glove (.994 fielding percentage), and a Hall-Of-Fame figure to the Angels this season.

So far, he has a .224 average, 7 doubles, 0 homeruns, and all around a below-average 1st baseman who just signed a 10-year contract to be one of the faces of the franchise.

It's disheartening to see a player of this amplitude struggle at the plate. Pujols is going through his prime years, and if he is already struggling, that's a warning flag to the Angels. I would find it really hard to sign a player in his prime to a 10 year contract.

However, he is the Albert Pujols. Arguably (if even,) the best player in baseball the past ten years. He has produced solidly and every great player has his struggles throughout the season, but to go through almost a whole month now batting a .224 with no home runs, makes me skeptical.

I want to see Pujols prove me wrong. He gave the city of St. Louis the best 1st basemen in the league, playing key roles in the 2006 and 2011 World Series wins. From what I know, he's a pretty good guy. He guaranteed them a power spot in the lineup. Time to prove the Angels that even as a veteran, Pujols can still be the best.

But hey, if he strikes out twice a game each time the Angelsplay the Mariners, I won't even be mad

Would you have given Albert Pujols a 10-year contract at the age of 32 to play 1st base for your team?

I would not have given him a 10 year deal, especially considering the fact that the Angels have Kendrys Morales, and Trumbo, who are pretty good first baseman. I think that if I was the Angels, I would have used the money on another quality starting pitcher.

The Angels are most likely gritting their teeth now...but I agree, the Angels need to at least trade Trumbo so he can play and become an excellent first baseman.

I would have sign him. He was going to get ten years, no matter what team he went. Maybe not as much money. Its similar to the ARod deal with Texas. Latin/Hispanic community mortage for that prime time Latin/Hispanic star. He is off to a terrible start, but I think he will still finish with his average yearly stats...

1st home run of the season today! Hopefully this will ignite his season...

And now he has proven me wrong...
