Climbing the ladder
Irish beat Air Force 35-22 with hopes of cracking top ten
Tyler Eifert pumps up the crowd after scoring his 2nd TD in the 3rd quarter.
This is the game Brian Kelly has been waiting for from Tyler Eifert. After finishing the season strong last year filling in for the then injured Kyle Rudolph, Kelly expected a strong 2011 from Eifert. The first five games he was silent. Against Air Force Saturday, Tyler Eifert bursted out of his slump in a big way. He ended up with 4 catches for a career high 176 yards and 2 TD. "It felt great to get involved and contribute." said Eifert.
QB Tommy Rees threw 2 interceptions but also managed to throw 3 TD's for 268 yards. Junior WR Robby Toma returned from injury to catch 4 passes for 62 yards and a TD. Jonas Gray repeated his last game's performance with 9 carries for 74 yards. Brian Kelly was far from happy with his offense's performance. "We were real sloppy today on the offensive side of the ball. We have to have them things cleaned up before we play USC." said Kelly.
Aaron Lynch continues to dominate offensive lines. Lynch had the lone two sacks for the Irish. He wasn't finished though. For the second time this season Lynch recovered a fumble and returned it for a TD. Manti Te'o forced a fumble and Lynch ran it back 48 yards for the score. This young DE is really a force to be reckoned with. Notre Dame has a bye this week but in week 8 they take on USC.
*Coach Brian Kelly had four more recruits commit after attending the Air Force Game. Here is the 2011 list so far.
