MSU @ ND
Week 3
Domers upset Spartans
Irish put up 28 in 4th to win 45-35
Michael Floyd reels in a pass from Tommy Rees for a TD.
The Fighting Irish had a 28 point outburst in the 4th quarter to comeback and upset the Spartans. Notre Dame's defense had trouble stopping MSU in the first 3 quarters. After 3, they trailed 28-17. Then Brian Kelly pulled aside Tommy Rees. "I told him just to relax and that he had a whole quarter. Tommy and the team responded well to a pressured situation. I'm proud of them tonight. Both sides of the ball played well when it mattered."
Tommy Rees came up big again in crunch time.
Theo Riddick caught a 4 yard TD from Rees on the opening play of the 4th. Rees then led them two more times. Jonas Gray filled in for injured Cierre Wood. He carried the ball 16 times for 120 yards and 2 4th quarter TD's. Wood hurt his ankle and is expected to miss a few weeks. The offense thrived late but couldn't have done it with the defense.
Aaron Lynch pumps up the crowd late in the 4th quarter.
Except for a last second garbage time TD, Irish shut down MSU QB Kirk Cousins and their offense in the 4th. Fighting Irish defense managed to pick off Cousins three times, twice in the 4th. Aaron Lynch continued to dominate the opposition with a career high 4 sacks. Sophmore DB Lo Wood also came up huge with an interception and a fumble recovery returned 17 yards for a TD to put away MSU.
