The Sad Story of Madden 12
Posted on November 23, 2011 at 09:42 PM.
Instead of writing a blog or making comments complaining about Madden and hoping for them to fix the next years version, I am going to tell you the sad true story of how Madden made me so happy then disappointed me like child on Christmas morning with no presents.

I was playing my third game of the year in Year 3 of my franchise with the Seattle Seahawks. I was playing the San Francisco 49ers and I was on the march to score at their 11 yard line. Matt Barkley my solid 2nd year QB from USC drops back to throw a slant to my slot receiver Justin Blackmon (OK St.) and he fires a strike right on Blackmons numbers. Somehow though a 49er corner literally warps through Blackmons body, intercepts it and runs it back for a touchdown. This had me fuming, but I continued to play.

As the first half ended David Akers who must be about 40 at this point drains a 59 yard field goal into the wind as time expired. I have now played three seasons now and ZERO missed field goals. Sure I can change the sliders, but it screws the game up even more. At this point I was upset, but not at my breaking point and then....

The game was down until its final seconds and the Niners threw up a Hail Mary against my prevent defense and of course caught it in the endzone for the win. Now sure this happens in real life, but this was now my third loss in three years via the Hail Mary.

I dont mind losing games, I dont mind seeing interceptions, I dont even mind seeing 59 yard field goals, but Madden disappointed me big time in this game so I am done. It is too bad to because despite all of Maddens flaws I was having fun playing with the Hawks. Now I just have to hope EA does not disappoint me next year.

You're mad because the WR burnt out your corner and safety, because you had too many mistakes? Regardless, I'm pretty sure you've seen amazing things happen in real life along with games... Games are made for entertainment purposes, for example in NBA 2k11+2k12 any dunker can dunk over a car... In real life, hell no. Game =/= Life

I applaud CC Giant. It's a video game.

I get that its a video game CC, but whats the fun of playing it if the computer is going to cheat to win. Im not mad my receiver burnt out my corner and safety the computer player literally went through my players body like a ghost...you dont find that irritating?

I have not purchased a Madden game since 2005-2006. But to semi-cosign what CC Giant said, it's a video game. I'm an avid NBA 2K player and that game frustrates me to no end every year (with the exception of 2K11). But players warp in almost every game...even some instances in Action/Adventure games or shooters, you'll see someone's hand ghost through a wall.

You have not seen frustration until you've run out of ammo and had to melee, only to have your knife ghost through an enemy.

I don't think we'll see a near-perfect representation of a sports game until maybe next-gen. So until then, I say just take the game for what it is and try not to get too pissed off.

its no excuse, but all video games seem to have warping issues. Warping used to be worst. so the fact that its kept to minimum is a ggood step in the right direction for all games.

not a MAdden fan. but your post seems to prbably show poor game play tactics on your part. especially if it has happened to you twice. Im sure tehir is some sort of defensive adjustment that might be made to avoid the frequency of hail mary completions.

I was playing prevent defense. I get your point its a video game and things happen, but I guess my point is what is the point of even playing the game if things like this happen constantly. I really think Madden and NCAA are decent, but I think you've made a great point that until the next gen we will have to deal with warping and glitches.

For all these "It's a just a video game" people, tell Madden to quit marketing their game as a football sim if there are going to be these kinds of problems. I still play Tecmo Super Bowl on NES. Crazy things happen on that game all the time but I don't expect it to be a footall sim. Madden markets their game as "everything you see on Sundays". Quit calling your game sim and I'm fine with that. I spend $60 dollars for a Football sim to be let down every year. I should have to just "not buy the game" either. Just give us a game that is Sim and I will happily pay $60 or just call it what it is "Almost sim with a lot of arcade" and I will happily save $60.

Stupid stuff happens like that all the time to me in FIFA but it makes me better because I have to adjust to not let it happen again. Good luck next time!

I don't get it. Were flaming dudes now for being crappy madden players cause he threw to an open receiver and the db warped thru him for a pick six? What's he supposed to learn from that to avoid it from happening again? Don't throw it to open receivers? On a website where people constantly berate developers for having teams with the wrong colored shoes This seems ridiculous. To me you have valid concerns that should be heard. "just a video game" that's nonsense.

I can relate dude. I was playing with the Chargers. First game of the season. Less than 2 minutes to go in the game, I'm up four. I call a play action pass on 3rd and 5 to ice the game. Rivers is sacked and fumbles right under my right tackle. I punch in to him and he stands over the ball, making no attempt to recover it. The defense picks it up and runs 50+ to the end zone. PA had worked several times earlier mind you. I get the ball back. On first down, Rivers decides to throw the ball several minutes after I pushed Gates' icon. Get hit as he throws into the arms of a DE. I turned the game off and put it in my old game box. I'm done with Madden.

In one sense I am glad someone else feels my pain, but in another sense it just sucks hearing these same things happening to so many other people.
