Is it finally time for affordable next gen gaming?

SBK 09 isn't exactly a masterpiece. The key to this title is the retail price: $19.99. Sure, Milestone held this game back from release in the US. Yes, SBK X has been released in Europe. While we won't see a flood of shovelware for the PS3, it is nice to find something affordable to play until the annual avalanche of titles is released by EA Sports, not to mention the holiday titles.

Instead of releasing year-old European titles dirt cheap, why not drop the standard retail price to $49.99? Backbreaker is the first of these relative bargains, and there are fans out there who will overlook the mediocre reviews, pocket the savings, and play this game for the rest of the summer. Given the floundering economy and back-to-back years of sales figures in the red, the big game companies have to either lower the suggested retail, drop that retail earlier, or allow for more sale pricing on new releases.

they blame it on the cost to make the game but if I can sell 100,000 copies at $60 that = 6mil but drop the price to $50 and sell 125,000 and that = 6.25 mil only a .25 mil increase and the actual cost of the units and shipping etc. It is actually more profitable to sell less copies at a higher price.

I'd rather pay $60 for a good game than $50 for a not very good 'but at least it was an affordable next gen game! game.

It's not about lowering the price, it's about finding the deals. You can often get $5-20 off of games now, if you bother to shop around. Preordering games on Amazon often gets you credits towards future gaming purchases, roll those credits into games that have credits of their own, and you have a permanent discount on new releases.
