The Patriots played their first official game under head coach Steve Belichick, hosting the Detroit Lions for the first week of preseason.

here are some takes from Belichick to the media outlets after the game :

" .. obviously there is a lot of work to do. We really wanted to have everyone involved, playing 4 quarterbacks, rotating a lot of defensive players, trying a lot of funky stuff and of course a lot didn't work out but we have time..."

The first team offense and defense looked solid, Cam Newton had a really clean day in the few snaps he got, distributing the ball between Edelman and his new target Gabriel, who looked already in sink.

" ..yeah i like what i saw from Taylor (Gabriel), he is obviously quick, he got some very needed yards after catch, and he looks good in our offense, but that is the product of his willing to train hard and follow our lead.."

The defense was astonishing in the front seven, sacking the quarterback 5 times, but it was the secondary that showed some misscomunication and too many mistakes that need to be fixed.

"..we have a lot to work on and to address in every phase of the game really..it's just not one aspect only...it takes time.."

Stidham looked really bad, and the newly signed Rosen was not up top the task so quarterbacking is another point of emphasy for the next preseason game.

As the 2020 season slowly approaches, a new beginning is blossomin' in New England.
After the Brady departure, Bill Belichick decided to leave the head coach position to his son, Steve, and he began immediately to work as the de facto GM.

Steve, after some years coaching safeties and the defense, starts as the head coach of the franchise for the first time in his career.

" ... the roster is full of young guys deserving to prove they belong, but we always feel we can improve daily, via trade, free agency, draft, we will always try to improve the overall level of our roster keeping an eye on what the market has to offer..."

says coach S.Belichick, when is asked about the first acquisition under his management, wideout Taylor Gabriel..

" .. Taylor is a very experienced wide receiver, he has a lot of speed left in his legs, and we feel like we could use some burner in our offense, giving Cam a deep threat that our wide receiving corp was laking..."

So after spending season after season working on the Patriots defense, the first move he makes is acquiring speed and playmaking ability on offense.

Gabriel, after spending his first 2 years in Cleveland, was traded to the Falcons where he played for another 2 years, scoring 7 TD's overall; he then went to Chicago to play with the Bears for a couple years, managing to score 6 TD's in 25 games overall.

Here are his first words as a Patriot :

" ... i look forward to get to know my teammates, to work with Josh ( McDaniels ) and Cam Newton, and i cannot wait to get on the field with the guys..."

Patriots fans will have one more reason to follow the preseason games now, hoping that Gabriel could be the missing piece on their young and inexperienced offense.

Being a Patriots fan since i started watching football, i always had the desire to run the franchise on Madden but there was always a feeling of having already everything on place, it was just "too easy" to play with them, no real reason to start a dynasty because you already had everything, with the best QB on the planet and an immediate chance to win.

Playing with other teams on the other hand was exciting at the beginning, but i lost interest through the games because i wasn't invested like when i was playing with my fav team, i think it's natural.

Right now, Madden 21 might not be a very good game and has its flaws like every Madden, plus we are about to ship to the next gen in a couple of months so who knows how or if the current gen version is gonna last; but to me it is the very first time i have the chance to take the Patriots in my hands and feel empowered to rebuild them.

We have a capable veteran in Cam Newton, and a very good young player in Jarrett Stidham.

We have a very good defense that is rejuvinating with a lot of talent from recent drafts.

Our Offensive line is solid, and we can continue to improve on our receiving corpse, so it is gonna be fun!

Bare with me if you want to witness the rebuilding of the most successful team in the sports world, the NEW New England Patriots!
