Its incomplete as far as some of the starting overalls and type of player. i will fill that in later when i am at home.
Draft notes:
During draft day the Wings made 2 trades
1st trade seen Johan Franzen and the Wings 2013 1st rd pick go to Florida for their 2013 1st rd pick (9th overall).
2nd trade sent Joanthan Ericsson to Columbus for their 2013 3rd rd pick.
Now it looks like i may have struck out with the 9th overall pick in Colin Smith all C's in potential. but i may have found a couple good players later on like Yury Mikihnov (29th) and Anthony Verret (210th). we will see how they progress.
it will be interesting to see how this Ronnie Card progress. If he can progress to where he can play i wanna see a line with him (6' 6") and Grenier (i think is 6' 6" as well) on it LOL

At the draft the Wings pulled off 2 trades that seen Johan Franzen and Jonathan Ericsson find new homes.
There were rumors after the playoffs that the team was looking to maybe move Franzen. He didnt have a great playoff after a great regular season where he finished with 36 goals. He finished the playoffs with only 4 goals and would see time on the bench during the Western Conferance Finals.
Ericsson seen his ice time cut drastically during the season. With the play of 18yo rookie Ryan Murray, Ericsson and Kindl found themselves battle for precious ice time. The team decided that Ericsson was expendable considering his age and contract price compared to Kindl's.

Redwings Update from Mlive:
Talking out of Detroit is that the agents for Brendan Smith and Valtteri Filppula are in talks with Gm Ken Holland about new contracts. Filppula currently is a UFA and the team has a short window to get him signed before he hits the open market. Filppula finished the season with 36 goals which tied Johan Franzen for the team lead.
Brendan Smith is a RFA and this was his 1st season in the NHL. At one point of the season he was the teams leading scorer among the dmen. He ended the season with 26pts good for 4th among the teams blueliners.
Filppula could be looking for a big contract and the team is way under the cap currently. We will see where these negotitions go with both players.
The team still has pending UFA Robyn Regher in need of a contract. The team will need to decide what they want to do. They may wait and see what happens with Filppula and Smith before they decide their next course of action.
Detroit-- Gm Ken Holland announced today that the team has reached contract agreements with Brendan Smith and Valtteri Filppula.
Smith re-signed for 3yrs/ $2m
Filppula gets 2yrs/ $5.15m
Quote:We are very happy too keep both players here in Detroit. Filppula had by far his best season and Smith is looking at a bigger role for us on the blueline this year-Ken Holland

Holland also said that he is talking with Regher, White and Howard's agents at the moment trying to get them signed to new contracts. All 3 are UFA currently and have said they would like to stay in Detroit. None of them want to test the free agent waters. RFA Jakub Kindl and Jan Mursak are still unsigned, But Holland has said he wanted to get his UFA re-signed before moving on to Kindl and Mursak deals.
The team also announced they have offered 3yr entry level deals to the following players
Colin Smith (3yrs/ $870k)
Anthony Verret (3yrs/ $845k)
Marek Tvrdon (3yrs/ $895k)
Kip Stamkos (3yrs/ $895k)
Derrick Pouliot (3yrs/ $925k)
as of this writing word is that all 3 have accepted and signed their entry level deals. They will be invited to prospect and training camp.

The Redwings finished with the ultimate prize at the end of the season, Winning the Stanley Cup.
They finished the regular season 1pt behind Pittsburgh for 1st overall. They went out and added Dwayne Roloson when their backup goalie Joey McDonald stuggled. Roloson came in and won 5 games in his 7 starts. They then added Robyn Regher at the trade deadline from the Buffalo Sabres. This addition made their blueline stronger and helped them finish 2nd in defense.
The went into the season with 4 rookies on the roster then called up a 5th five games into the season when their top line was struggling.
Many experts didn’t think the Wings would make the playoffs let alone win the cup because of how many rookies were in the lineup. Detroit usually lets their prospects develop till they are “over ripe” before they see time in Detroit. But the 5 rookies became key players for the Wings.
Tomas Jurco- the 19yo was called up from Grand Rapids and was thrown into the fire. He was inserted into the RW slot skating with Datsyuk and Filppula. He would finish with 25 goals and 48pts despite missing 12 games.
Gustav Nyquist- Was Grand Rapids leading scorer in the AHL, he earned a spot in the top 6. He was put on the ice with fellow Swedes Franzen and Zetterberg. Nyquist would finish with 27 goals and 46pts.
Brendan Smith- The Wings top blueline prospect that fans were waiting for. Made the club and was the teams #4 dman. Paired with Nicklas Kronwall all season long. Later would find himself with Lidstrom as a partner. He would finish the season with 26pts.
Tomas Tatar- Another top player in GR, he would crack the lineup on the 3rd line. Finishing the season with 20pts, he would see less ice time until the playoffs when he was moved up into the top 6 and became a important player for the Wings in their cup run.
Ryan Murray- this 18yo blueliner surprised many when he was on the roster opening night. He was protected by the coaching staff, played as the 6th dman. But he did at times see ice time in the top 4 on the blueline. Despite 7pts on the season the coachs like what they see from their 2nd best blueline prospect.
Now the Wings enter the off-season and next season as the defending Stanley Cup champs. They do have questions this off-season
- Will Captain Nicklas Lidstrom retire or come back?
- What will Val Filppula want in terms of a new contract after his monster season?
- Will they resign trade deadline acquisition Robyn Regher?
- What will the young guns that are up for new contracts do in their negotiations?
- Will the Wings go into the Free Agent market to add any pieces? If Lidstrom retires will there be a suitable replacement in the free agent market?
- What does Detroit do with their 2 1st rd picks? Keep them and add more talent to their prospect pool or trade to move up in the draft and find a top flight talent who can play right now.
- What will the Wings do with Franzen. Franzen lost his top 6 spot during the playoffs and didn’t find his way back. He played on the teams 4th line in the Cup finals.

1st up in the off-season is the NHL 2013 Entry Draft. Detroit goes into the draft with 2 1st rd picks, 27th and 29th overall picks. There has been rumors that Johan Franzen is being shopped and the team would like to package him along with a 1st rd pick to move up in the draft.
Talk is that the Wings will look at the center position in this draft and try to add to their depth there. Defense will be another target area again in this draft.

This was they day that all Redwing fans did not want to see happen. Everyone knew it would come but it was postponed every year by one more year. But this year after the Redwings won the cup, their Captain and probably the 2nd greatest Defenseman of all time decided it was time.
Nicklas Lidstrom officially announced his retirement. He informed Ken Holland of his plans a few days before the NHL Entry Draft.
Quote:
It was a call i didnt want hear anytime soon. But he just won another Cup and what better way to go then go out on top.
- Gm Ken Holland
Lidstrom drafted in the 1989 draft, he would be named captian after Steve Yzerman retired in 2006. He would become the 1st European Captian to led his team a cup in 2008 and then again in 2013.
Quote:
It will be a huge hole on our blueline and in the locker room now that he will not be putting on the Winged wheel. -Coach Alcide
Wings now head into the draft and off-season in unfamiliar territory, Knowing that Nick will not be coming back.

Game 7 in Detroit, the Wings and Sabres knew it was down to 1 and down. The Sabres came out on fire, aided by 9 penalties, they would fire 16 shots in the 1st period. Another 13 shots in the 2nd period while the Wings only managed 12 total shots in that time span. But it was the Redwings who got on the board.
Darren Helm and Patrick Eaves 3rd line grinders would be the ones leading way for the Wings. Midway thru the 2nd Helm would put home his 3rd of the playoffs. 4 mins later Eaves would push the lead to 2-0 with his 2nd goal of the playoffs.
In the 3rd Buffalo would again get a early goal. Almost 2mins in Cal Clutterbuck would find the top corner past a screened Howard. But that would all that Buffalo would get. Howard and the team would shut the door on the Sabres and Henrik Zetterberg would get a empty net goal.
Detroit came into game 6 knowing that if they lose its over, all there success in the regular season was for nothing.
Things didnt start out how they wanted, Buffalo took a 1-0 lead 6mins in. Tyler Ennis scored his 8th goal
In the 2nd period Detroit turned up the pressure, they would get 3 straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. 2 mins after they took a 2 goal lead ex-wing Dan Cleary would cut that lead back down to 1 with his 4th goal of the playoffs.
3rd period started and Wings just had to hold the lead for 20 more mintues. But just 33 seconds into the 3rd period Tomas Vanek would tie the game at 3.
Game 6 would go into overtime. In overtime just like in game 5 the Wings would get the game winner. In game 5 Datsyuk would get 2 goals to tie that game. In game 6 he would score the overtime winner.
Series now tied at 3, Game 7 will be back in Detroit
Pavel Datsyuk and rookie Gustav Nyquist put the Sabres party plans on hold. The Wings held home ice and won in overtime 4-3 to put the series at 3-2.
The Sabres had a 3-1 lead midway through the 3rd period after Leino scored his 6th goal of the playoffs. With their back against the wall the Wings were looking for something. at the 12:22 mark Pavel Datsyuk would cut the lead to 3-2. almost 7mins later Pavel would tie the game.
In overtime the Wings leading goal scorer Gustav Nyquist would find the back of the net for his 11th goal of the playoffs. For Nyquist it was his 1st goal in the Cup finals.
Quote:
He was struggling abit, maybe pushing too hard.
-Coach Alcide
Nyquist lead the Wings with 10 goals but couldnt find the back of the net in the cup finals. Pavels 2 goals were also his 1st of the series. The team will need both them to now step up if the Wings want to come back in the series.
Ryan Miller and the Sabres move 1 win away from the Cup. With a 4-1 win and a dominating performance the Sabres now sit with a 3-1 lead in the series.
Miller stopped 32 of the 33 Redwing shots. Tomas Vanek's 8th goal 6min into the 3rd period would prove to be the game winner. Leino and Adam would add late 3rd period goals.
Quote:
We need to play better. This series has been strange, from a shutout to a 7 goal out burst in one period, to the overtime and now this game. We have been so inconsistent throughout this series i dont know what to expect in our next game.
-Coach Alcide
No lead was safe in this game. Detroit would go up 1-0 midway thru the 1st when Filppula put home his 5th of the playoffs. That lead stood until 5mins into the 2nd period. Roy put home his 6th of the playoffs to tie the game. 4 mins later pest Clutterbuck would give the Sabres a 2-1 lead with his 1st goal. Detroit would tie the game on Eaves 1st goal in these playoffs. Miller was busy trying to clear his crease when Regher fired a shot that hit Eaves and went into an open net.
In the 3rd period Peter Regin found the back of the net for a 3-2 Wings lead. Things were looking good for5 Detroit until Buffalo's Jason Pominville found the back of the net with 50 secs left in the game.
In overtime Leino would find the puck after a scrabble and failed clear by Detroit in front of their net. Leino found the corner of the net for his 4th goal of the playoffs and the game winner.
Buffalo now leads the series 2-1
After only seeing 1 goal combined in the 1st game both teams came out looking to find the offense. 7 goals and 20mins later the Sabres found themselves down 5-2. Thanks to 2 goals from Ian White, Tatar, Fipplua and Regin. After the 1st period both teams couldnt find the back of the net. In surprising move the Sabres left Ryan Miller in the game and he repsonded by not allowing another goal. The Wings did win the game and even the series at 1.
Now the series shifts to Buffalo for games 3 and 4
Ryan Miller took game 1 for the Sabres last night in Detroit. Tomas Vanek would score almost 3 mins into the game on a nice wrist shot to the blocker side of Howard. After that it was all Miller and Howard. Both goalies played outstanding in the game. Howard stopped 26 of 27 shots, but Miller was better stopping all 22 Redwing shots.
Quote:
We had chances, but their goalie was great. He didnt give up alot of rebound and when he did their defense kept us away from them. We needed to get in front him more and attack their defense.
- Coach Alcide
