This was they day that all Redwing fans did not want to see happen. Everyone knew it would come but it was postponed every year by one more year. But this year after the Redwings won the cup, their Captain and probably the 2nd greatest Defenseman of all time decided it was time.
Nicklas Lidstrom officially announced his retirement. He informed Ken Holland of his plans a few days before the NHL Entry Draft.

Lidstrom drafted in the 1989 draft, he would be named captian after Steve Yzerman retired in 2006. He would become the 1st European Captian to led his team a cup in 2008 and then again in 2013.

Wings now head into the draft and off-season in unfamiliar territory, Knowing that Nick will not be coming back.
