Oregon Ducks.... Losing might Spark -
Posted on September 4, 2009 at 02:33 PM.
As I watched the Boise St. Broncos give the Ducks a world class *** whuppin (Largerret Blount Pun), I kept thinking to myself... "It wont get any worse... right". To my surprise, it did. Blount threw a right cross and a Boise St DE that was mocking Blount after the game. Blount then pushed his own teammate (TE Dickenson) and no less than 60 seconds later got into a pissing contest with fans before being dragged off my several Ducks Staff and Poilce Officers.

Now the ducks might have just lost there best RB for a very long time. But what will the upside be? I mean, there has to be an upside right?

First lets look at what might come of the QB Masoli. He just lost his big time running back, he's not a pocket passer and relys and Blount in the option Run..... but wont a lot of people don't know about Masoli is that "He is" a pocket passer. While playing for San Fransico CC before transfering to Oregon, he threw the ball 35+ a game. He initially was Oregon's #5 QB coming into last season because he was not familiar with the spread option run attack of Chip Kelly. Last night vs Boise, Masoli looked like he was playing in an offense he had never played in. The spread option run attack did not look fitting for him and it looked like he was really searching for an idenity. Maybe with Blount out of the picture for atleast a couple of weeks, Chip Kelly will relay more on Masoli passing from the pocket.

RB LaMichael James only touched the ball twice last night but had 22 yrds and a long of 17 that led to Oregon's only TD. He was lining up in a flex/slot for most of the night and moving in motion, but now with #1 RB Blount gone, Kelly will have to rely on the speedy, quick and agile James for a running presents. If Masoli can show he can effectivly pass from the pocket, defenses will be forced to keep players out of the box, that should open up running lanes, swing lanes and and ditch off passes to James.... who as seen before, can explode with the ball and make tacklers miss in the open field.

With all that said.... the lose to Boise last night might have been a blessing in disguise for the Oregon Ducks. Every player was riding the high from beating Ok St last year, and felt that they can go and orchastrate 500+ yrds every game this year. With a bad lose to Boise, these players with hopefully find new commitment to playing football and work harder to be what everyone in the nation knows they can be (Offensive Power House). It shouldn't be hard with Chip Kelly as Head Coach and Former coach Mike Bellati constantly looking of Kelly's shoulder (Now Current Athletic Director).
