First Cut Down Date Here, Redskins Waive Four

August 31, 2010

The Washington Redskins have waived LB Hall Davis, LS James Dearth, S Lendy Holmes, and C/G Edwin Williams. The Redskins are now at the mandatory 75-man roster limit.

Davis was traded for yesterday, but must have not shown well in practice as he is cut a day later. As a 5th-round draft choice by the Rams this year, maybe he will be put on the Practice Squad.

Dearth was brought in the bring competition to LS Nick Sundberg, and did just that. Sundberg is no longer struggling, so Dearth was let go.

Holmes, a 2009 undrafted-free agent, was not expected to make the roster either and the signing of S Tyrone Carter probably sealed his fate as a Washington Redskin.

Williams, also a 2009 undrafter-free agent, made the roster last season, but only saw action from injuries. He seemed to struggle in Mike Shanahan's zone blocking scheme. He is the most surprising cut of the day.

*Note, the Redskins reached the 75-man limit because WR Malcolm Kelly was put on IR, essentially making him the fifth cut while not losing him permanently.

I'm not shocked by this move, I feel Moore will be ready by week 2 and we all ready have Doughty, Horton and now Carter to back up Moore and LL30. 5 safeties are plenty, the only bad thing is that only 1 of them is a true FS and that is Moore...

Five is plenty...Moore, Landry, Doughty, Horton, and Carter. I feel like Carter will be cut when Moore is healthy though.

You might be right about Carter being cut four safeties should get us through the season. I'm a little surprised by Williams being cut I thought he moght backup Casey at C.

I believe Lichensteiger will be that back-up C. He has experience in Shanny's zone blocking scheme and is currently #2 on the depth chart.

I was thinking they may have kept Edwin since he is younger but I guess they want insurance immediately if Casey goes down. Not a HUGE surprise by any means...

Shanahan isn't too big on youth and if I am right, Lichensteiger is only 1 or 2 more years older the Williams

Who do you think the final victim is?

# 8 LHSLax_D24 @ Aug 31
Shay Hodge, Clint Oldenberg, Curtis Gatewood, or Willie Parker

Or Anderson Russell, but 2 safety in a day is doubtful

Gatewood is a good guess, I think it could be someone from the d line. we will need a lot of bodies to play specials on thursday in the desert.

Maybe Rob Jackson then. I just heard the final CB spot is between Ramzee Robinson (former Mr. Irrelevant) and Byron Westbrook

I'd keep Westbrook and let Robinson go but not until Saturday

Personally, I'd go Rogers, Hall, Buchanon, Barnes, and Tryon.

Tryon hasn't shown me anything at all. I'd keep Westbrook for teams and let Tryon walk UNLESS you keep 6 CBs

I have no idea on the CB's personally. The only guarantees in my mind are Hall and Rogers.
