Its been said many times, that you can Laugh Now--only to Cry Later...
I wasn't gonna write this, but if Chris can tell the truth (http://tinyurl.com/2wumbma) SO can I. Great read by the way, Chris...GREAT READ.
With the cancellation (lets be honest--that's what it is) of NBA Elite 11 EASports got the message of the consumer, but don't kid yourself, it wasn't for the quality issue they're preaching, they could care less about that--they made a BUSINESS DECISION based on the fact that their New Brand would be ridiculously outsold and associated with failure forever. The real message they got is that they have to COMPETE...if not, its best to cancel your release altogether.
after the bait-and-switch that was Madden 11 (because lets be honest, the demo gave no clue that defense would be non-existent) we know one thing for sure.
THEY SIMPLY CAN'T BE TRUSTED.
In the coming months, EA/Tiburon will try their best to do damage-control and sway you with promises of Madden gameplay "fixes" and try to use words you identify with like: "new tackle system" or "defensive AI" but don't fall for it. NOT FOR AN INSTANT. Never forget that feeling you felt after 3 days or so of playing Madden 11 (or that you're feeling right now) and realizing that the game was bad. REALLY BAD.
Whether it's the fact that their testers are horrible or they simply DON'T test, the simple truth is this: EA/Tiburon is a Bastion of Game-Killing Glitches and ALWAYS HAS BEEN. Doubt me? FINE. Let's take a walk down memory lane then, shall we?
2003: Online is a cluster@&%# six words: GAME SHARK. SEAM ROUTE. DB AI.
2004: Jet-Packing and Mike Vick reign supreme.
2005: Nano-blitz enters the urban vernacular. for good measure so does juke-glitch.
2006: Run/Pass Glitch ruins games everywhere. remember this petition? http://tinyurl.com/29dtbp8
2007: Lead Blocker Control aka no run defense to speak of. play-action runs wild.
2008: Another no-defense game where Vince Young ran wild. DB AI is horrendous.
2009: FG blocks and the infamous WR Direct Snap Glitch.
2010: largely a solid game, but even then "flats" defense broke the game yet again.
This year was even worse, we received a game where the game had been purposely "dumbed down" to appease the casual customer and even after it was patched--was still unacceptable.
My Suggestion? Let your voice be heard with CURRENCY (or lack of it, to be more specific) and don't compromise on one thing. NOT ONE. If there are things you know SHOULD and CAN be implemented and aren't? DEMAND IT. If they're not? Tell them what they've been telling YOU since as long as you could audible down...
MAYBE NEXT YEAR.
If you've been asking for dirty jerseys and field degredation and they aren't in? WALK AWAY. You say you want individual coverage audibles and all of the past-gen features and they aren't being added? spend your hard-earned dollars elsewhere. What's this you say? You demand full rosters, Adaptive AI, realistic franchise stats, Collision Detection and a game where Speed isn't the dominant attribute? Well by all means, DEMAND IT THEN.
Because in simple terms, they don't listen to, or respect you enough to give you what you want. To them, you'll complain but still continue to buy like the videogame sheep you really are. The cold, hard truth is that The Madden Series is NBA Elite without any competition, and the only reason you don't know it, is because they keep PISSING on you, calling it RAIN--and you keep believing it. That's right, you're playing the football version of NBA Elite, but you just haven't figured it out yet.
In the tradition of classic beer commercials everywhere...
MAN UP.

All EA has to do is CLONE ncaa and call it madden. Adjust rosters and dynasty/franchise mode. Add Tournament Mode that will keep up with in depth stats. Also add Spectate Mode in all online games as promised..... wouldn't mind sitting on the 50 yard line watching some of the elite player and friends play. Still waiting on the last request (spectator mode) since promised in MADDEN 06 next gen. What happened?

My wife bought me madden this year and honestly if it wasn't for the fact that she bought me the game I would take this crap back! Is it hard for a DB to follow a receiver in his zone. Is it impossible for the Jets D-line to be blocked. I've faithfully played madden for years. I mean I play on all madden, knew all of my teams plays even the glitches that I refused to use cause I always believed it was cheating but this game is failure I don't care what the game magazines tell u! I don't understand how u can get tackled threw ur block! I don't understand how the opposing teams defense at times walk right past a blocker like he's not there. Yes everything I'm complaining about doesn't happens as often on All-Pro but come on man I don't want to have to go down a level becuse the game allows crazy things to happen! As far as zone D this is the worst I have ever seen it DBs have no awarness they allow 1 receiver in their zone to stand their uncovered for long periods of time. I literaly watched a reciever stand in my FS's zone for three seconds before Mark Sanchez threw him the pass. Yeah your probably thinking why didn't u switch but it came down to the fact that I either had to stop Edwards on a streak for a touchdown our let the 20 yard pass happen. So if u don't have good DBs on your team good luck! As far as the D-Line pressure I never really see any on passing plays not even using the best D-Line in football with the Giants! If u run yes they get quick penitration but not on passing plays! This game is terrible to make it even worse I actually saw a play were my D-line pushed the O line back far enough that sanchez ran out of the pocket stood two yards in front of his blockers and my DE continued to push forward on the blocker until I switched over turned around and decided to chase after Sanchez! Like I said playin on an easier level seems to be the cure to many of these issue but I actually like barely sneaking into the playoffs and haveing to fight for a chamionhip rather then blowing out teams 45-7! The only problem with the easier levels tho is that everythig I just complained about tends to work to your favor when u do! So once again I will wait for 2k to save me from sports game hell and keep me occupied for the next year! can't wait for this mdden deal with the NFL to end cause it's time for some real football in the 2k world. I miss actually seeing an arm push out on the stiff arm and players jumping over legs to make sure they dont fall over. Just a note for EA sports when u throw a stiff arm players actually still grab at legs they dont just fly back a yard!

i love this post. thanks for this. and im glad others agree. simply put, EA is plumitting downhill, FAST. they ruined nba live/elite, madden, nba street, and fight night. i vow to never buy another EA game again. i wont go any further because this stupid website banned me for shredding EA on another post about how they failed when they moved to the next gen consoles.

The NFL should really look at what 2K is doing with their NBA game and seriously consider not renewing with EA or let both companies go at it.

Happy to report I havent bought Madden in a few years and the trend will continue until the game will be worth the investment of time. The reason I refuse to buy the game is because once I own in, and play it a few times, I KNOW it will get stale and it will end up sitting under NBA 2K11/NHL 11 never to be played again. Im only going to buy it if the gameplay is THAT good, and the game itself becomes impossible to substitute with a different sporting title.
Madden is the least enjoyable game out of NBA, Fifa, NHL, MLB (The Show), yet it is arguably the most exciting sports! How does that work EA? please please let us know..

Imagine for a second, Microsoft releasing a version of windows 7 rife with the same glitches and feature oversights that Windows Vista had after people complained endlessly. The day after release there would literally be a RIOT IN SILICON VALLEY. The criticism they would face in the tech industry would be unrivaled. and imagine how Apple would capitalize. the type of blatant "we know best/deal with it" attitude that EA/Tiburon displays is unheard of in tech. consider the Windows 7 commercials you see today. Microsoft's blatant consumer ***-kissing is almost comical, but after slipping from their #1 perch last year Bill Gates & Co. know better. We need to show EA how we feel about arrogance next year. or of course, we can pray to the Gods of Chaos Theory and keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. YOUR CHOICE.

This is hilarious everyone wants to stand on their own soap box and "preach" to the masses. If the game bothers you don't concern yourself with it, that means don't read about it don't comment on it don't do anything that consists of Madden. The only reason Madden is bashed so hard is cause there isn't anything else to compare it against. Sites like these ruin sports game just as much as the dev team can. Think of this how many guys would actually find all of these glitches without someone pointing them out to him. Most glitches take you doing something out of the ordinary. One last thing...the NFL is all about speed it is the most game changing ability any player can have. Why would you not want this represented in Madden. What makes DeSean Jackson stand out is speed. Would you know who Devin Hester was if it weren't for his speed?

this was my first year not buying Madden since I've been able to drive. I'm 29 years old. I'm just tired of having the urge to complain about the same stuff - so I said f-it, and passed. I did get NCAA and am pretty about it.

its the fact that EA promise things and nothing ever live up to what they say.... EA is all about $$$$ which for us is not a good thing reasons is obvious when a company ships out a stripped down version of a game for a more powerful system...WTF was Madden05 really about?? no commentary? no franchise?.....
madden in this gen has always given us this but took away that.or not add it all together and since we all witnessed the Next gen Madden video we all thought we would be there by now..... that's how I feel at least

For starters we would have a better intro video. (LOL) No offense to Brees and co, but really? What happened to the multiple intro's from players, coaches, fans, and cheerleaders?
-Secondly, the soundtrack would be banging and we would have custom sounds...it only gets deeper from here...
-Next, there would be classic teams to choose from with all the retro unis. Knowing 2K they would probably throw in wrinkles like no challenges, old facemasks (i.e. kickers with 1 bar), and just that overall rugged feel of football from the old days.
-Let's go a little deeper, there would be more realistic player intro's, not the same tired Saints one for every team. (SMH) There would be an actual coin toss with audio and the captains talking and shaking hands (wishing each other good luck, talking some trash, asking about the family, etc)
-Even deeper, imagine the roster tools...there would likely be more roster updates and the commentary would follow this (think NBA today like in 2K, but it would be NFL). There would be special teams subs. I won't ever have to see Ted Ginn and Brian Westbrook on the kickoff team covering kicks. Seriously EA?There would be deep rosters, allowing for practice squads and anything else teams need to accomplish for roster moves. The player customization would be phenomenal! From equipment, accessories, shoes, etc. There would be custom celebrations that you could probably assign to individual players or team celebrations (2K would probably spice it up with excessive celebration penalties and fines just to make you think twice about over-doing it). Let's not overlook penalties, all of the real penalties would be in the game and actually get called. I could go on forever...
-Some other tidbits, playbooks would be outstanding. There would be custom playbooks, actual back and forth motion (what players run all the way across the field in motion and then all the way back-the WR's in Madden do-didn't used to in last-gen-we are familiar with that tune though). Sometimes the WR's in real life stop halfway down the O-line and reverse the other way or shuffle their feet prior to the ball being snapped). Trick plays would work accurately, but not excessively...hmmm, what else? Cheerleaders would be on the sidelines doing their thing during the game and also in b/t qtr's and @ halftime (I won't even get started on the halftime show, or pre and post game shows). There would be a better postgame with the players and coaches actually meeting in the middle of the field. The commentary would actually be conversational and not Mr. Nasal Guy (Chris Collinsworth) and Gus who might as well be on a short yellow bus recording his lines. Imagine listening to, hmmm I don't know...let's say Kevin Harland and John Gruden. It would be crazy! And 2K is capable of it and of all of what I mentioned beforehand. And that's the funny thing about this conversation we're having as these are not just presumptions. We have confident expectations because 2K cares about their product and their consumers. It is evident and they have proved! The NBA2K series is sufficient evidence alone, as they literally killed the competition. And I would be remissed if I didn't mention the fact that people still talk about NFL2K5 several years later as further proof.
What else can you all think of or hope that 2K is working on in their football dungeon in preparation for the day they can release the beast?
