I really wish that gamers would just relax and enjoy their games. Post such as "THIS GAME IS BROKEN" and "COD SUKS...BF3 ROCKS" are sad reflections of how jaded we have become as gamers. What happened to the days when a person just played games for FUN???
Don't get me wrong; I enjoy making big plays alot in the relatively grounded environment of simulation gaming. However, there is nothing wrong with enjoying unrealistic aspects of games! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed playing Madden 2004...attempting to slow down Michael Vick was exciting... Yes, I became frustrated when my cousin overused him, but I didn't scream "THIS GAME IS BROKEN" and storm out of the room! I just adapted my play style to the game...
YOU HAVE TO ADAPT TO THE GAME. THE GAME CANNOT BE EXPECTED TO ADAPT TO YOU (even with sliders).
I'm not putting down people who genuinely press for feasible improvements in games. Actually. I hope to help them by chastising the peanut gallery of "I'm looking for something to be pissed about" gamers.
There was on OSer who addressed this months ago. Props to him for helping me see the errors of being a "gaming perfectionist".

Very well said. Once you are involved with a bunch of games, we all look for flaws. What we don't look at is the stuff they actually got right.

We (gamers) are definately a spoiled bunch now. My gaming days extend back to the Nintnedo and Commodore 64 days(man I am OLD!!). It use to be all about the fun factor and pure joy of gaming with friends & family but now we expect so much we have become overly critical (myself included).

I agree with both of you. I,too, have been overly critical of my games in the past. While I haven't had the awesome experience of Commodore 64 like you, dcal, lol, I used to love playing N64. In fact, I had more fun playing that console than I have had playing my XBOX 360. I think the reason for the current gen fun deficit I am experiencing is due to my attitude about gaming. I stopped playing for fun and started playing for pride, control, and escapism.

Yeah man! Commodore 64 was the wild west of gaming, lots of cool titles made their way from the C64 to the Nintendo....pure fun

I have said this same thing. People spend more time looking for flaws instead of enjoying the games for what they are. Sports games especially draw ire because of an incorrect blocking scheme or the wrong colir socks.
I too owned a C-64 and games were plain fun.

Very well put, and I agree for the most part. However, there was a point that we all crossed from just gamers to consumers. Most of us as gamers (Mom and dad bought the game, chore $, no real bills, etc.) DID in fact just overlook flaws in games and just enjoyed them. Now, as consumers, that is MY $60.00 going torwards that game. We are now expecting more bang for our buck b/c that is our cash.
There just needs to be some middle ground IMO. Enjoy the game but don't settle for lackluster efforts.

@TheRealHST , you're definitely missing the point. It's one thing for a game to really not function properly...Example: Not being able to tackle when you press X, even though the instruction manual says you can. It's another thing for a certain element of the game to not be realistic...Example: WR-DB interaction...pass speed, etc.
I want gamers to realize that they cannot always have it their way! Each individual gamer is going to want something different...as long as the game is functional then your car has working brakes. What color the doors should be painted is up to you.
Remember, you don't go to the store looking to buy "TheRealHST 2k12"...the game is made for more people that just YOU. It seems like alot of OSers need to think about that.
