BAKER PITCHES 9 INNING GEM

Game Recap:

Inning 1: It was 1, 2 3 in the first for the Cubs as they just couldn't stay dsiciplined. Castro and Barney swung at a combined 4 pitches in the dirt.
Pitt had two hits but couldn't capitlize as they left with nothing.

Inning two: Soler leading off the inning, as he is batting .476 takes a close pitch then swings at a high one. 1-1 the count and Soler crushes one to shortstop and can't beat it out. Schierholtz batting .350 now up, takes two pitches in the dirt then pops one out, Bloomquist batting .105 continues his slump and pops out on an infield fly.

Baker comes out strong in the bottom of the 2nd getting Jones out on 3 pitches, then Castro makes an amazing play followed by a great scoop by Rizzo. The inning then ends with a hit and an out.

Inning three: With the cubs looking for their first hit Jackson comes up and gets robbed by Walker at 2nd base. Baker and Castro follow suit by making outs.

Baker makes it a quick inning, strikes out the first then an error by Jackson puts a man on, then a sac bunt and an SO.

Inning four: Barney leading off, weak hit to the center of the diamond... looks like he can run it out... OVERTHROW! He gets 2nd base. Probably would of been a hit if it wasn't an overflow but the Cubs still don't have a "real" hit. Rizzo then crushes one to second to get the man to third with 1 away. Salty then crushes one for a double to knock Barney in! CUBS SCORE! Soler singles but can't get salty home and then Schierholtz hits into a DP.

Baker follows with a 1, 2, 3 inning.

Inning 5: Bloomquist makes another out and flies out to shallow RF. Jackson then grounds out. Baker then comes up and SOs.

Baker then strikes out 2/3 of the outs on 3 pitches then grounds the other one out in 1.

Inning 6: Castro... deep CF... way back... caught at the wall! Was the first pitch of the inning. Barney who reached on an error last time now up, grounds out to the pitcher. Now stud Rizzo is up with two away, Rizzo swings at one way over his head, then swings at a low an away pitch just on the corner. Rizzo then strikes out on another high pitch, another bad inning.

After giving up a hit and then letting Tabata steal second, Baker came back strong by getting the next three in a pop out, ground out and strike out.

Inning 7: Salty starts off with a ground out. Soler now up, first pitch a curve ball, Soler takes a whack at it... THAT BALLS GOING.. GOING... GOING... GONE! SOLER A SOLO SHOT! Schierholtz does the exact opposite and grounds out and Bloomquist gets out on a bad call on a bunt.

Get up and stretch... and sit right back down in 5 seconds, was the bottom 7th. Baker retired the Pirates in 5 pitches.

Inning 8: Jackson leads off with a single then Baker sac bunts him over to second, with 1 away. Castro the future star is now up, flies out to first base. Barney now up; he flies out to RF.

Baker still going, handles the inning smooth in 7 pitches, a 1, 2, 3 inning.

Inning 9: Rizzo leads off with a close play at first but is called up, Salty then rips a single, looking for insurance. Soler then swings at a low one, then crushes a line out which turns into a double play, as walker robbed him and got Salty with his quick reaction.

Baker going to finish the game now, makes it a smooth 9th in 5 pitches.
