Kansas City 38, Texans 20.
Kansas City couldn't of started their preseason any better, right from the opening kick off Charles takes back a 99 yard kick return for a TD, and Arrowhead got loud. You could tell they were excited for some football, and they saw some. Kansas City's offense, while it wasn't Peyton Manning's Colts, they showed that they have a few weapons and can cross that goal line. Jamaal Charles definitely showed that he wanted some more reps on the field, because he turned in an all around game. He was able to run, catch out of the backfield, and of course return some kicks, a utility man they may have found. Larry Johnson looked determined, although the 3.3 yard per carry average isn't anything the Chiefs want to see this season, he did look powerful on some runs and looked more agile in the passing game. The entire receiving core did well, Brad Cottam looked well, and he is going to have to continue to look well considering he is filling the great Tony G's shoes. Bowe and Toomer looked sharp on their routes, while Matt Jones was effective. The defensive side of the ball still could use some work, although if the Chiefs are just going to outscore the opponent then, I guess defense really shouldn't be that huge of a concern. Chris McAlister showed exactly why he was signed, grabbing an interception out of the sky. Him being able to cover the opponents top receiver is really going to help Flowers and Carr develop as players. Nobody else really impressed on the defensive side of the ball, pretty solid all around for what Kansas City has.
