Starting Kansas City Chiefs franchise in Madden10.

10 minute quarters with 20 second run off (first preseason)

The Kansas City Chiefs as a whole are a very young team, with improvements needed on both sides of the ball. The direction that they are going to take is to be heavily reliant on their offense's scoring ability with Matt Cassell at the helm and the young Dwayne Bowe as his likely biggest target. Larry Johnson should be able to provide the team with a decent dose of pounding the ball inside behind an average offensive line. While the defensive side of the ball should look to take a different approach, it's very young at the moment and that is probably going to change with new management on board, while the young players will still be around, it'll be no surprise to see some veteran guys come in and show the young guys a few tricks.

Before preseason even takes off the Chiefs make a couple splashes in the free agency market.

-They realize their offensive line has a pretty big hole in it at the right tackle position. And while starter Damion McIntosh has been in the league for 9 years and should be prime, he's going to be getting a lot more looks from the bench as the Kansas City Chiefs decided to sign Shane Olivea (RT) to a three year deal worth 14.28 million dollars over the 3 years. The fact that he is 5 years younger should boast well for him as he could easily improve to be a solid player for the team in the near future.
-Kansas City sees that their secondary is way to young and needs some veteran leadership, they look to Chris McAlister (CB) and sign him to a 2 year deal, reportedly worth in the neighborhood of 20 to 22 million. He should bring a much needed lift in the secondary, and definitely should ease some pressure off of Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr.
-Kansas City looks to get a solid future number 2 option a wide receiver, and sign 6'5” Matt Jones from Arkansas (4 years in league). The Chiefs are counting on Matt to make some strides in the next season while being under the leadership of Toomer. Matt Jones was signed to a 5 year deal worth 10.65 million.
-Kansas City was short on required DT, and the position was pretty weak with Tank Tyler and Ron Edwards the only notables. The Chiefs signed Dewayne Robertson to a 3 year deal and quickly claim him as the starter.

Players cut
-A. Boone (RE), will take a one million dollar cap hit in the offseason.
-Q. Lawrence (Rookie WR), unimpressed with in preseason. Will take a 90k cap hit in offseason.
-M. Beisel (MLB), no cap hit.

With the first preseason match up against the Texans, the Chiefs have stated that they hope to find an offensive player who can contribute to their offense. They are keeping their eyes heavily on FB Mike Cox and TE Brad Cottam to hopefully contribute to the offensive side of the ball. They are also hoping to find something similar on the defensive side of the ball, definitely in the passing game. CB Brandon Carr will likely be watched very carefully, as the 2nd string CB, he'll likely see the field quite a bit and needs to make this preseason a productive one. Updated to follow after the game.

(I will tweak with the blog and such as the season goes along, will probably go in more depth once it's the regular season)
