For those of you who didn't play NFL Head Coach 09

Player Health:

Not only was there a INJ and TGH rating in Head Coach, but there was an overall health rating for players too. What they did was place values on body parts: Head, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, and torso. Some guys who were squeaky clean would have all 100's for every part. Other guys like this Acho guy might have had a red flag injury and the health of one of his legs might have been in the 60's.

What does this do? Well, over the course of playing a season, players are taking hits to their bodies. NFL Head Coach would try to determine where a guy was getting hit and then take away some health from that body part. A durable guy might be able to take more hits to a part of his body and not degrade too much. But a fragile guy that already has a leg injury takes a few hard shots to his leg...well, that guy is probably going down with an injury.

Before you say anything, I think the game did a pretty good job of not wearing guys out too quickly. I currently have a smashmouth running attack with a RB that has 87SPD, but is a strong guy with big trucking ability. He isn't a dance in traffic guy, so he takes tacklers head on. He is pretty durable and his health ratings were pretty high (all in the mid to upper 90's) out of the draft. He ran for 1500 yards in his first season, and now in his second season he is up over 1,000 yards with 4 weeks to go. His health ratings for his body parts are all in the high 80's to low 90's and this guy is getting 25 carries a game and taking and giving out poundings.

But yeah, that is how you might end up with a bust on your hands. Sure the guy might be a beast, but if you can't keep him on the field to play, what good is he?

I didn't play head coach 09 as I have owned a previous version and really didn't want to do that much. I wanted a in between Madden and Head Coach. I suspect I am not alone.

the idea of more detail on injuries, yeah that would be cool. I like the idea of reoccuring injuries (health) and body aware hit engine in which it will detail the amount of hits to a certan part of the body. with the momentum engine in place, it could perhaps note how fast and hard players are hit (big hits) that could 'wear a player out' for a game, a season, or in worst case a career (RARE)

I think Madden 12 is on it's way but reading what was in HC09 that sounds pretty sweet.

What I wouldn't give for new rosters and a couple of enhancements to HC09. What a fantastic game.

I which that would do an NFL Head Coach every other year. I loved the last one and would had liked an improved game. EA didn't give it a chance. Great game!
