Player Health:

Not only was there a INJ and TGH rating in Head Coach, but there was an overall health rating for players too. What they did was place values on body parts: Head, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, and torso. Some guys who were squeaky clean would have all 100's for every part. Other guys like this Acho guy might have had a red flag injury and the health of one of his legs might have been in the 60's.

What does this do? Well, over the course ... Read More

How re-signing players works:

When a player on your team has a contract running out, they will come to you at some point in that last season and want to negotiate a contract extension. They come to you with a contract package they want. Depending on your GM and the player, there might be 30 different packages to choose from, but the player is most likely going to select the very last one which is the most lucrative for him. You can low ball him with the very first offer which ... Read More

Pro Days:

A lot of colleges will hold Pro Days. Here you will be presented with a list of a few schools that are holding Pro Days at that time, and you can choose one of them to go to. A school might have anywhere from 1 to 8 players working out that day and if you go, you will get a little more information unlocked on all of those players that participated regardless of their position.

Personal Scouting:

This is where you have to go to unlock the most ... Read More

Senior Scouting Day:

Sometimes you can get a little bit extra info when the college seniors decide to play. Depending on the ability of your GM, you will get a list of seniors on a position by position basis.

Say this year, there are 7 college senior QB's to be looked at. Maybe your GM is only average at scouting QB's...you might be able to look at 3 or 4 of them to unlock a little bit more information about them. This might get you up to a 40% overall scouting of ... Read More

Position specific coaches:

QB, RB(includes FB), WR(includes TE), OL, DL, LB, DB, STC.

These coaches don't have access to the strategy and game calling skills that the OC and DC's would have. Essentially they have skills related to their specific position. For example, a QB coach would have basic skills to physically, intangible, and learning development for the QB. He would have a performance skill as well for the QBS. Some of the special skills he would have would ... Read More

Head Coach:

Since the game was called Head Coach, the Head Coach had access to the most base skills and special skills.

He had strategy, team chemistry, offensive and defensive play calling skills, the physical, intangible, and learning development of ALL of the position players on defense and offense. On the special skills side he had the ability to make all of his coaches around him better (increasing their base level maximum by 1, so if your QB coach was at QB physical ... Read More

Coaching Staff:

General: Each position of coach had a rating of 1-5 for each category that pertained to his job. For instance the runningbacks coach would have a 1-5 rating on physical development, intangible development, and the learning development of your running backs. He would also have ratings for performance, strategy, and things in case he were ever to become an offensive coordinator. Every coach had access to certain special abilities. For the same example of the runningsback ... Read More

I originally wrote this in the Madden 12 forum to give Madden fans that never even glimpsed at NFL Head Coach a little taste of how that game and its features worked so they could have some idea of how they might work in Madden. My intent was to promote how great Madden's franchise would be if it even came close to doing the same kind of things NFL Head Coach could...and there was reason to believe that could happen since Josh Looman was a lead designer for Head Coach and is one of the main guys ...
