Game Notes
- After winning their first NL Central crown, the Pittsburgh Pirates advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 1992. The Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in game five of the NLDS, advancing them to face the Washington Nationals in the NLCS. Down 3-2 and heading back to Washington, the Pirates were able to overcome the odds and upset the Nationals in game seven of the NLCS, advancing them to their first World Series since 1979. - The Tampa Bay Rays took a much different route then the Pirates, as they had to play in the one game, winner advances Wild Card, to which they beat the Oakland Athletics. The Rays then went up against the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS. The Rays trailed the Angels 2-0 heading back to Tampa, to which they rallied off three straight wins to upset the top seeded, 102 win Angels. Making their first ALCS appearance since 2008, the Rays had a daunting task ahead of them in facing the Detroit Tigers. But the Rays rose to the occasion, as they swept the Tigers in four games. The Rays appearance in the World Series marks their first return since losing to the Phillies in 2008.
