Pirates KO Wainwright in 4-1 Win

PITTSBURGH -The trade deadline has come and gone, that'll be discussed in another topic, but the Pirates and Cardinals were worried about game three of the four game set. Taking the mound for the Pirates, Wandy Rodriguez, against the Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright.

In the top of the 1st inning, Michael Bourn led off with a single, but was caught stealing second base. Rodriguez would get Furcal to ground out and Craig to strike out to end the inning. In the bottom of the 1st, Wainwright made the Pirates look foolish, getting quick outs from Tabata, Walker and McCutchen.

After a quick 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 2nd, Wainwright got Pedro Alvarez to strike out to lead off the inning. Garrett Jones then reached on a throwing error, followed by a single from Travis Snider to put two on with one out. Tony Sanchez then made his MLB debut at the plate, and was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Clint Barmes then hit a bases clearing double, scoring Jones, Snider, and Sanchez to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

Wandy Rodriguez would ground out to end the inning. In the top of the 3rd, Adam Wainwright singled with two outs, followed by a single from Michael Bourn to put two on. Rafael Furcal then singled to load the bases. Allen Craig would then ground out to end the inning. In the bottom of the 3rd, with one out, Pedro Alvarez hit a solo shot to push the Pirates lead to 4-0.

After a scoreless 4th inning, Jon Jay hit a pinch hit single with one out. Jay then reached second on a wild pitch, followed by a single from Bourn. Furcal then grounded out, scoring Jay to put the Cardinals on the board.

Rodriguez would get Craig to strike out to end the inning. Neither offense could muster any runs over the next three innings, keeping the score at 4-1 heading into the 9th. Jason Grilli would come in looking for his 39th save. After getting Molina to strike out, David Freese singled. Then with two outs, Daniel Descalso singled, putting runners on first and second. Grilli walked pinch hitter Kozma on six pitches to load the bases. Then on a 2-2 count, Bourn would pop out to end the game.

After taking two of the first three games of the series, the Pirates send James McDonald to the mound to oppose Lance Lynn, as they look to take the series victory. First pitch, 7:05PM.
