Sanchez Roughed Up as Braves Drub Pirates 6-3

ATLANTA - After taking game one of the series, the Pirates looked to take game two, which would clinch their first series win in the past few attempts. But the Pirates would need more than Andrew McCutchen to carry the offense, as lefty Jonathan Sanchez takes the mound to oppose lefty Mike Minor.

After a 1-2-3 top of the 1st from Mike Minor, the Braves pounced on Sanchez right away, as Andrelton Simmons singled to lead off the bottom of the 1st, followd by a walk issued to Reed Johnson to put two on with no outs. After Justin Upton grounded out to advance the runners, Jason Heyward doubled to deep right field, scoring Simmons and Johnson, giving the Braves a 2-0 lead.

After Sanchez walked Freddie Freeman with one out, Dan Uggla would ground out, followed by a strike out by Christian Bethancourt to end the inning.

The Pirates wouldn't stay off the board for long, as Pedro Alvarez hit a solo home run on the second pitch of the inning, pulling the Pirates to within one.

Gaby Sanchez doubled and then scored on a 2-run shot by Russell Martin to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead.

After getting through the 2nd untouched, Sanchez hit Justin Upton, but would get out of the jam by getting Freddie Freeman to strike out looking to end the inning. Sanchez and Minor cruised through the 4th, as Minor also cruised through his half of the 5th. Leading off the inning by hitting pitcher Mike Minor only turned to trouble, as Minor scored on a double from Justin Upton to tie the game at 3.

With the Pirates down in order in the top of the 6th, the Braves again went to work against Sanchez. Bethancourt hit a one out single, followed by a single from Friday to put two on with one out. Pinch hitter B.J. Upton walked, setting up Simmons for a huge bases clearing double, giving the Braves a 6-3 lead.

Each teams bullpens took over for the remaining innings of the game, keeping the score at 6-3 for Craig Kimbrel in the top of the 9th. Kimbrel got Snider, McCutchen and Alvarez all to fly out to end the game.

Player of the Game:

After getting pounded in game two, the Pirates look to Francisco Liriano to get them back on track, trying to get another series win. Opposing Liriano will be former Bucco lefty, Paul Maholm.
