Pirates Overcome Early Deficit, Down Brewers 4-2

PITTSBURGH - The Pirates were finally brought down to earth after their eight game winning streak, as the Brewers took game one of this four game set. Taking the mound for the Pirates, was lefty Jonathan Sanchez, opposing Mark Rogers of the Brewers.

In the bottom of the 1st, Garrett Jones and Andrew McCutchen singled with 1 out, but Pedro Alvarez would ground into a double play to end the inning.

As they did in game one, the Brewers struck first as Jonathan Lucroy singled and then scored on a 2-run home run from Kristopher Davis to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 3rd, the Pirates got the offense started, as Travis Snider and Garrett Jones singled, followed by Andrew McCutchen reaching on an error by Rickie Weeks to load the bases. Pedro Alvarez took a 2-2 pitch and drove it to the gap for an RBI double, tying the game at 2.

Russell Martin then hit a sac fly, scoring McCutchen to put the Pirates ahead 3-2. The Pirates looked to pad teh lead in the bottom of the 5th, as Jones singled and then was called out trying to reach 3rd on a single from McCutchen. Jerry Sands would fly out to end the inning. In the top of the 7th, Jonathan Lucroy singled, but was called out on a double play by Alex Gonzalez.
