5/9/2013: Pirates Make Two Roster Moves

PITTSBURGH - The Pirates announced the following roster moves today:

Pitcher Francisco Liriano has been recalled from AAA-Indianapolis and will make his 1st start tomorrow evening. With recent struggles of Jonathan Sanchez and Jeff Locke, Liriano only made one start at the AAA level, but it was a good one. In his one game pitched, Liriano pitched a complete game, allowing 6 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 14.

Pitcher Jeff Locke has been optioned to AAA-Indianapolis after his most recent struggle in New York. In 7 games pitched (37.1 innings) for the Pirates, Locke allowed 38 hits, walked 6, and struck out 28, while earning a 4.82 average. Locke will step into the Indianapolis rotation, looking to work on his pitch effectiveness and command.
