Beltran's Grand Slam Sends Cardinals to 7-5 Win

ST. LOUIS - The Pirates continue on there 10 game road trip, after taking 1 of 3 from the Philadelphia Phillies. The Pirates have Jonathan Sanchez on the mound, who has been somewhat shaky thus far this season. Lance Lynn takes the mound for the Cardinals, coming in with an 0-3 record.

The Cardinals started off quickly against Sanchez, getting the bases loaded in the bottom of the 1st. But the Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the 2nd, as Rafael Furcal hit an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Pitching locked in between both teams, as each pitcher held the opposing team scoreless for the 3rd - 5th innings. The Pirates tied the game in the top of the 6th, as Andrew McCutchen reached on an error, getting the RBI. But the Cardinals took over in the bottom of the 6th, as Matt Carpenter homered, followed by a grand slam from Carlos Beltran to give the Cardinals a 7-1 lead. The Pirates started chipping away in the top of the 7th and 8th, scoring two runs to cut the lead to 7-3. In the top of the 9th, Russell Martin hit a pinch hit, 2-run home run to cut the score to 7-5. Cardinals skipper, Mike Matheny, went to Jason Motte with one out in the top of the 9th, who shut the door on the Pirates to collect his 6th save and the win for the Cardinals.
