Snider's 8th Inning Dinger Sends Pirates to 4th Straight Win

PITTSBURGH - The Atlanta Braves haven't impressed many so far this season, after spending a lot of money putting together a championship contender. The Braves have struggled to score in the first two games of the series against the Pirates and turn to Ace Tim Hudson to get them back on track. Hudson opposes James McDonald who has been impressive himself this season.

The Pirates got swinging early, as Garrett Jones and Pedro Alvarez each singled with two outs in the bottom of the 1st. Brandon Inge, in his first plate appearance on the season for the Pirates, grounded out to end the inning. Then, in the bottom of the 3rd, Neil Walker singled and got into scoring position with two outs. But Justin Upton robbed Pedro Alvarez of an RBI with an amazing catch in left field. James McDonald continued to soar through the 3rd, as the Pirates looked to strike again in the 4th. After a drawn walk from Michael McKenry, Clint Barmes singled with 2 outs, followed by a single from James McDonald to load the bases. But Tim Hudson got Jose Tabata to strike out swinging to end the inning. In the top of the 6th, Tim Hudson and Andrelton Simmons, each reached on errors, but McDonald got Chris Johnson to strike out to end the inning. After another scoreless inning in the 7th, Gerald Laird came in to pinch hit and hit a double on a 3-2 count to end McDonald's no hit bid. McDonald got Brian McCann to ground out to end the inning. The Pirates finally got on the board on a solo home run from Travis Snider to put the Pirates ahead 1-0. Jason Grilli came on for the save opportunity, getting Jason Heyward to ground out to end inning and give the Pirates a 3-0 lead in the series.

Player of the Game: James McDonald

The Pirates turn to Jonathan Sanchez in the finale of this four game set, as the Pirates look to sweep the Braves. First pitch, 1:35pm.
