Bucs Rally From Six Down, Thump Cardinals 9-6

PITTSBURGH - The Pirates lost to the Cardinals in heartbreaking fashion in game two, as Carlos Beltran hit a go head three run home run to send the Cards to victory. With the loss, the Pirates are 4-1 so far on this home stand, with an upcoming three game series with the Braves. The Pirates and the Cardinals square off in the rubber match, each looking to take the series.

After a scoreless 1st and 2nd innings, the Cardinals hit Jeff Locke and the Pirates furiously in the 3rd. After a walk to Daniel Descalso, Adron Chambers singled, followed a sac bunt from Jake Westbrook, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd, with one out. David Freese then singled, scoring Descalso. Pete Kozma then singled, scoring Chambers, followed by singles from Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran. Beltran's singled scored Kozma, and Holliday scored on a wild pitch, putting the Cardinals up 4-0. The Cardinals hit the Pirates again in the 4th, as a David Freese double scored Descalso and Chambers to put the Cardinals up 6-0. But the Pirates started chipping away in the 4th, as Starling Marte singled, and then scored on a single by Pedro Alvarez, cutting the lead to 5. Then in the 5th, Gaby Sanchez singled, followed by a single from Jose Tabata. Marte again singled, scoring Tabata and Sanchez, and pulling the Pirates within 3. Then in the Bottom of the 6th, Russell Martin singled and then scored on a two run home run from Neil Walker, as the Pirates pulled within 1. The Pirates bullpen quieted the Cardinals bats, keeping the Pirates in the game. The game finally turned in the bottom of the 7th, starting with singles from Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen. As Pedro Alvarez singled, Starling Marte was called out at home. Russell Martin singled, scoring McCutchen to tie the game at 6. After his big 6th inning home run, Walker did it again, hitting a three run home run to put the Pirates up 9-6. Jason Grilli came in for the 9th, putting the Cardinals down 1-2-3 for the Pirates win and his 6th save of the season.
