The Hurdle Era - Past and Present

September 7, 2010 - The Chicago Cubs defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2, their 82nd loss of the year, clinching the 18th consecutive losing season, the longest streak of consecutive losing seasons in any North American professional sport.

October 4, 2010 - The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced the firing of manager John Russell, after a disastrous 57-105 season record.

November 14, 2010 - The Pittsburgh Pirates announce the hiring of manager Clint Hurdle. Hurdle was a part of the Colorado Rockies 2007 NL Pennant and was the hitting coach for the American League Champion Texas Rangers during the 2010 season.

July 12, 2011 - For the first time since 1992, the Pittsburgh Pirates were over the .500 mark at the All-Star break. The Pirates also sent three players to the All-Star game in Andrew McCutchen, Joel Hanrahan, and Kevin Correia.

September 14, 2011 - The St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2, their 82nd loss of the year, clinching the 19th consecutive losing season.

The Pirates finished the season 72-90, increasing their win total by 15 games from 2010.

July 10, 2012 - For the first time since 1997, the Pittsburgh Pirates entered the All-Star break in first place.

September 28, 2012 - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Homer Bailey no hits the Pirates, their 81st loss of the season, clinching the 20th consecutive losing season for the Pirates.

The Pirates finished the season 79-83, increasing their win total by 7 games from 2011 and 22 games from the first season Clint Hurdle took over as manager.

February 18, 2013 - The Pittsburgh Pirates and manager Clint Hurdle agree to a contract extension through the 2014 season, with an option for the 2015 season.

February 28, 2013 - Manager Clint Hurdle mentions 95 wins would put the Pirates in a good position for 2013.
