Another close game - another final drive stop
Posted on October 21, 2009 at 11:41 PM.
Well, at least these are making close games

Had to face the Vikings, so good test of the new run blocking sliders for the CPU. Peterson makes it look like it can work. When the defense could contain him, he got a few yards, even a few losses. When he broke contain - look out. I won 20-14, and Peterson had both TDs, a 51 yd run and a 14 yd run. He finished with 19 carries for 123 yards and the 2 TDs.

Favre was actually the weak link. Well, he wasn't BAD but only 53% completion and a late pick in the end zone. He had 213 yards.

Flacco was better, 20 for 33 for 196 yds. 60% completion and 1 TD. No picks this time - and not bad considering both Clayton AND Mason went out for the game due to injuries. Heap became the main goto guy - 6 catches for 85 yds. McClain caught a TD pass near the goal line. 9 different receivers caught passes. 10 were targeted but L.J. Smith dropped his.

Ray Rice - guess what...3.7 ypc. Consistent at least! He did get a 3 yd TD run. McGahee was stopped a little more than he was used to "only" 4.4 yds per carry.

In all a good game and even though I keep winning, they are tight, realistic games that could go either way. Missed a FG this time (even though I forgot to change ST sliders).

One thing I changed was sub in/out for the DT and DE. Keeping them on the field as long as the other defenders really let the 4th quarter run success show up for both sides. Making the D-Linemen run around also slowed down the pass rush late on both sides. That was a nice touch, imo. Gives another layer of effect for screen passes and a side effect of pounding the ball.

I might up the CPU passing back to 25 because Favre probably should have been a little better. Ravens' secondary isn't all that great. I might up breaking tackles for both CPU and User. Run games were solid, but I still didn't like the amount of first-contact tackles. Seems like there's just too many, especially against CBs.
