Beginning of the end for NCAA Football roster sharing??
Posted on October 24, 2012 at 04:00 PM.
Recently, users on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have not been able to download rosters from other gamers using the in-game roster share function. Many passed it off as a glitch, bug, or server issue.
What sports gamers might need to face however, is this reality; this might be the beginning of the end. With the lawsuits that have been filed against EA Sports and the NCAA on behalf of players such as Sam Keller and Ed O'Bannon, the whole notion of named rosters might be disappearing as we know it. Certainly EA could decide to remove the ability for users to share rosters through the game's menus.
The idea that EA might already be disabling this feature in NCAA Football 13 is beginning to really gain steam and the silence from EA on the issue is deafening. I sincerely believe that the NCAA Football series itself could have it's days numbered. Gamers are not going to buy the game in the same numbers if roster sharing is disabled or worse, roster editing is removed altogether.
This leads myself and many others to wonder if we might not be seeing not only the beginning of the end of roster sharing in NCAA Football, but also the end of the NCAA Football series itself.
Comment and let me know what you think. Were you aware of this issue? What are your thoughts? Is the community over-reacting?

Overreact much? Though I do agree with the theory that the NCAA football series could possibly be in its last days...which would be a shame.

If that day does come......
As long as they can keep the editing we should be fine. We'll just have to go back to old school. Someone posting it for download and just use a flash drive.
I'm good with that.

This makes Xanathol's work that much more epic with his Editor which allows us to PC edit Madden/NCAA Roster & Dynasty files and share with the community.
Now gamers can go back to whatever game they felt played the best and edit to their liking.
I remember about 4 yrs ago I said "One Day" someone would create a Finn 2k Editor for EA Football games and that day would be great.
Well it's here and I am loving it.
Thanks X for saving us!!!
Oh well EA, now your limited editing functions are no longer needed. LOL

Great write up and fortunately EA has resolved the issue. Would have been very interesting to see how much feedback the community would provided this thread had this issue continued to have existed.

I guess I am in the minority. Since I play Dynasty, by the time I am a few years in, the players are fictitious anyway. I couldn't care less whether the names of any of the players are real.

I remember college games before they had real college teams, let alone player names. If the game is fun I will buy it regardless.

Dude, it's not a big deal unless they take away the editing feature. Otherwise you're a 2 minute download and a USB stick away from sharing via the web. They did it that way for years before the Share feature was added to the games themselves, making it super easy obviously. Trust me, if guys can do what they do with these PES option files, naming players in NCAA will be a breeze.

Guys, EA will settle out of court with Sam Keller and Ed O'Bannon, who are both broke cry babies looking for an extra buck and for people not to forget about them since they are nobodies now. Let's be real here, EA can't afford to take the PR hit from losing those lawsuits... Those guys will get their money and shut up. Watch it happen. The NCAA football series, however, may not be around for much longer since EA did settle out of court on the anti-trust lawsuit and is not allowed to have an exclusive license with anyone other than NFL for the next five years. If someone else can make a better game, EA may have an excuse to opt out of the market. We will see, the next gen systems will tell us a lot about the future.

EA should look at releasing the game on the PC and give the community access to the important DLLs. Much like the MVP games on PC, the series would thrive and continue for years.

This issue is a pain in the butt for EA. And if you have listened to EA's earnings calls, you would also know that EA is really focusing on the growth of the tablet / downloadable gaming market. At the end of the day, EA could drop NCAA Football and devote its time and resources elsewhere. If EA dropped NCAA Football, I'm sure that would result in at least a small boost to Madden's sales so EA might not view the NCAA Football franchise as a sacred cow.
Thanks for your post!
