The NBA All-Star Break is coming up and I already feel like a beaten mule. Being a Lakers fan will do that to you.

Over the last week I've read about Steve Nash not being happy with Dwight Howard. Kobe Bryant saying Howard needs to suck it up and play through his injury. And the grand-daddy of them all when Howard's Dad told the media that Coach Mike D'Antoni ... Read More

Seven years ago Anderson Silva lost a fight to Yushin Okami due to a disqualification for an illegal up-kick. Since then "The Spider" has rattled off 17 consecutive wins (14 in the UFC).

In every sport, we have the new crop of athletes compared to the greatest of all time. Although it's fair to debate it, I would believe the majority of fans consider Silva the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

I was sitting inside a restaurant earlier this evening with some pretty bad phone reception. The app I use to check scores was only displaying one line of scores before timing out. In this case I saw "Lakers 112". As I tucked the phone back into my pocket I felt fairly confident that my beloved purple and gold had taken one on the road in Houston.

Granted, Houston does average around ... Read More

This year has not been a great year for me -- as far as sports are concerned.

The USC Trojans entered the season as the preseason number one team only to spend the last week in December gearing up for the 6-7 Georgia Teach Yellow Jackets, whom they will face in the Sun Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Not to mention the pain I'm still feeling with them losing to both UCLA and Notre Dame in the same ... Read More

I often read and hear about players "back in the day" that bled the colors of their team. Every sport has great rivalries on paper, but do the players really care about them anymore?

I've longed thought about this topic, but the recent news of Kevin Youkilis signing with the Yankees brought it to the forefront for me again.

Sure, Youkilis isn't the best of examples. The long time Boston ... Read More

Another year and another "Sportsman of the Year" award has been given out by Sports Illustrated. The recipient of this years award is LeBron James.

According to the official definition of the award, it is presented to "the athlete or team whose performance that year most embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement."

So, in the ... Read More

Three seasons ago the Memphis Grizzlies finished their regular season campaign with a 24-58 record. During that season they had three head coaches (Marc Iavaroni, Johnny Davis, and Lionel Hollins). The franchise was the model of inconsistency. They were essentially turning into a Midwest version of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Surprisingly it is Lionel ... Read More

What's a Laker season without a bit...err...ton of drama?

Mike D'Antoni was hired as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers once the team struggled out of the gates to a 1-4 start. As much as I like the optimism and character of Mike Brown, it was painfully obvious Brown and his Princeton Offense was not ... Read More

By now you may have heard about the situation involving Royce White and the Houston Rockets.

Houston drafted White with the 16th pick in the most recent NBA draft. White has an extreme anxiety disorder which prevents him from flying with the team.

White's anxiety disorder was a cause for concern from other ... Read More

Apparently fans in Los Angeles don't have memories that go as far back as May 8, 2011. If you recall, the Lakers had just been swept out of the Western Conference Semifinals by the Dallas Mavericks. Fans new the end had come to Phil Jackson's tenure and not only did they accept it, the city was looking forward to a change.

The team had become stagnant. Player's weren't playing with intensity, ... Read More

The Los Angeles Lakers are really scary -- and not in a good way. What many people considered to be some sort of "Dream Team" are now 0-2 and some irrational fans are starting to believe there may have been more meaning to the winless preseason after all.

Things don't get any easier for the Lakers when they take on their hallway rival Los Angeles Clippers. ... Read More

One week from today the chaos starts all over again for NBA fans. Being a fan of most teams in the NBA doesn’t hold the same optimism as it does in other leagues such as the NFL, NHL, and MLB. If you’re a fan of the Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Bobcats, or Cleveland Cavaliers then you know that you have no shot of seeing your team hoist a championship trophy this year.

It’s a buzzkill to start any ... Read More

The Los Angeles Lakers are the Southern California version of the Miami Heat.

And there is nothing wrong with that.

There are fans, like myself, who would prefer to go the traditional route of building a franchise -- to build from within through the draft. I don't like the idea of "buying a championship", but that is the direction ... Read More

We are in what's called the "Dog Days of Summer". Baseball is starting its second half of the season, but other than that there is not much going on as far as broadcast television.

This weekend is no exception, but I don't want you going blindly into the weekend without giving you the heads up on these events:

Friday, July 13

With the recent Steve Nash signing and free agent buzz of Ray Allen, it merits a discussion on the longevity of NBA players as well as how effective they are in their twilight years.

In compiling a short list of the top players in their late 30's, one needs to consider how effective the player has been recently. Just because the player has had a great NBA career doesn't mean he's still ... Read More
