Dana White: UFC 151 is Canceled Stuck
Posted on August 23, 2012 at 03:12 PM.

Dana White has just announced on a media call that UFC 151 has been canceled. Dan Henderson suffered a partial tear of his MCL. Ariel Helwani, who was on the conference call said the fight was then offered to Chael Sonnen.

Quote:
Dana: One guy said he would fight Jon Jones and that was Chael Sonnen. He said he would fight him last night.
According to Helwani, Jon Jones rejected the fight with Sonnen.

Quote:
UFC Started planning the promotion and then Jon Jones said, "I'm not going to fight Chael Sonnen on eight days notice."
So, UFC 151 is scrapped -- completely. Henderson is devasted about the injury, and Jon Jones will face Vitor Belfort in Toronto on September 22.

DAMN! That sucks for Hendo. I really was happy he was finally getting a shot at a title. Plus that's going to be really hard for him at his age to recover and be himself again.

UNBELIEVABLE I was so excited for this fight and man what Jones did not too smart should of taken the fight he probably wins anyways. He may have just ruined his reputation on one decision, Dana said your either a fighter or your not that's not a good thing to be said about you if your Jon Jones.

Here are some other memorable quotes from Dana at the conference call:

"Good for you Jon Jones that you have money but there's a bunch of guys that needed to fight to feed their families."

"If I get a call today that says he doesn't want to fight Machida, we will have a conference call later today."

"This is one of the most selfish, disgusting decisions I've ever seen."

"I don't know what to expect from Jon Jones anymore. He just selfishly made a terrible decision that affects a lot of people."

Man those are some harsh words not saying they aren't true.

Jon Jones is under no requirement to fight ANYONE other than who his initial contract has on it. Good decision on his part. You train for months to fight a guy with one style and in 8 days are expected to alter your training and fight a guy with a different style? Jon Jones holds the Ace and he can call the shots at this point in his career. Good for him. Let Dana Whine do what he does best...... whine.

Dana white is full of it if those comments are true, Jon Jones made correct decision considering his record and plus he has the belt, you dont take a fight on 8 days notice especially when your belt is on the line. im sure this guy trained for Dan Henderson ,not Sonnnen and you cant prepare for guy like that in 8 days, Dana whit just looking for a pay day himself thats all

Danna White is all about his money! Hes trashing Bones because he wouldn't take a fight with a fighter that he hasn't trained for with a 8 days notice.Jon made the correct decision defiantly. This isn't a popularity show

So unprofessional of Dana to pin this all on Jones. I know he likes to be brash, but sometimes I just wish he'd conduct himself in a more business like manner when dealing with this like this. You'd never see the commissioner of any other sport trash one of their top athletes like this. He is the president of the organization and in charge of lining up fights. Why make a card that is 1 injury away from being cancelled?? There have been a couple other PPV cards like that this year as well. I think the UFC is spreading itself too thin when it comes to their PPV cards. 2 per months is too much. Should be no more than 1 PPV card a month, that way we go back to getting better quality cards like we had in years past. I mean Jay Heiron vs Jake Ellenburger as the co-main event?? Seriously Dana?

Other than Roger Goodell lol. seriously tho, just reading these comments, sounds like jones had every right to decline, especially considerin how ufc fighters get the hell beat outta them even worse than boxers

Cancelling the event is unprofessional. People purchased plane tickets and made plans to attend. He could have tried thinking outside the box - replace the main event with one of the other scheduled fights, add some fights between hungry younger guys who would fight on eight days notice, and issue a partial refund to make up for the lesser main event.
