What is the point of being a Coach in NCAA Football?

I read a lot of these dynasty blogs. I find them great entertainment, and a lot of you guys really put a lot of work into your Dynasty.
But a thought occurs to me...
What is the real point of Coach Mode in NCAA?
Everybody I read takes their favorite school and turns them into a Super Power. You see guys taking schools like Akron or UMass and winning twenty straight National Championships. I guess there's a certain thrill to that.
But it seems to me that the intention of Coaching Mode was to begin your career at Akron or Umass, have a little success, then move up to Cincinnati or Boston College, have a little more success, and finally end up at a BCS school like Penn State or USC.
So you'd be constantly moving up the career ladder.
I mean, to each their own;
But to me, if realism is what most of us subscribe to wish for; How does taking a program other than maybe ten or twenty of the top tier to a National Championship qualify as realism?
Could UMass EVER win a National Championship?? I seriously doubt it.
In fact, I doubt that you'll see Umass on National TV in twenty years much less becoming a power. It's such a daunting task IRL to build a program into a powerhouse... It shouldnt be possible in NCAA, no matter how good you are at gaining the system. But, that being said, you SHOULD be able to move up the ladder and take Ohio State or Alabama to the Championship. That makes sense, and is realistic on some level.
Am I out of line here? Or am I the one missing the point?
