I've been a Bama fan since I first started following football. My first Hero was Joe Namath (Alabama), my favorite NFL team was the 76 Raiders with Ken Stabler(Alabama), Then when I became the equipment manager for my High School, we got our uniforms diectly from the University of Alabama. Imagine how proud we were wearing the same uniforms as the two time (1976) National Champion at that time. We considered ourselves as part of the Bama Program. Then I actually was spoken to by Paul Bear Bryant as he visited our school. Such a surprise and still an Honor to this day.
Later, the great Shawn Alexander grew up in my neighborhood. He was trying to decide between Michigan, Notre Dame and Alabama. Thankfully he choose the Tide. I was thrilled.
So yes, I'm a Fanboy.
But I have to write this.. I'm watching The Tide dismember Michigan the other night. They were bigger, faster, quicker, deeper, and smarter, and they had discipline with an attitude. That's a hard combination to beat.
I see a blog whether the SEC should get an automatic bid to the current playoff format in the NCAA; What are they talking about??
I got news for everyone, so long as Nick Saban coaches this program, unless you beat Alabama, you ain't winning the National Champuionship. The road to the Championship runs right thru Tuscaloosa.
I watch Coach Nick's teams.. They play like a military unit. I call them the Team 6 of Football. They don't beat teams, they apprehend them. Watching Alabama is like watching a Police Unit catch a criminal, one guy twists the arm behind the back, another forces the perp over the hood of the car, another forces his legs apart while the next guy puts a billyclub into the back of the knee bringing the perp to the ground to be handcuffed and physically lifted into the paddy wagon.
That's how this team plays.
And I thought that I'd see some kind of drop off in talent this year. If anything, I see MORE talent. OMG, they've got an offense that plays physical as much as their defense now. Imagine those practices.
I hear USC is really good, lots of talent. I hear Ohio States got Urban Meyer. But neither one of those teams have been hit like Alabama hits. They don't pursue like Alabama Pursues. I doubt they've established ther discipline that Saban has instilled at Alabama. That takes time. That takes almost a neurotic obsession by the Head Coach, something or somewhere that other coaches in their right minds fear to tread.
So, in answering that blog, my point is that I can't speak about the rest of the SEC, but so far as I'm concerned, I don't see anybody else out there that can handle Alabama for the foreseeable future. Not even LSU.
