Well, its that time of the year when the info starts pouring out regarding EA Sports' football video games. The hype train is certainly moving BUT, for probably the first time in OS recent history, its not spiraling out of control. Yeah, we have the speculation that Madden has RTP but if you carefully read the thread you'll see that mixed in with that hype is a whole lot of doubt.
Is it fair for us to judge this "new" development team on the game's history? Should we listen to the "chosen" Game Changers about this being a different year -- a claim they have made every release since their arrival? Is Cam Weber that change we needed for the Madden series?
The Game Changers have basically picked up sword and shield while trying to defend this game and are meeting a lot resistance. Instead of just coming out and say that this development team is focused and has made great strides we get a comparison of the United States bombing of Japan to end a world war. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion but is it really THAT serious? I understand the excitement surrounding something new but comments like "I can never play Madden '12 again" just keep pushing the hype. We want to be happy when this game drops -- we want our doubts to be wrong. We WANT to be hyped up about Madden (even though some won't admit it). But if every year we get the 'this is the year' quote -- golden words quickly become old box cutter rusty after we find out it WASN'T the year.
Maybe I'm just too hard on the developers and the site represenatives, maybe not. I'm a very reserved person and until I can see it with my own two eyes I just can't believe it. Its like a friend telling you about this hot chick he just met downtown -- he's hyping her up to be 10 but when you see her for yourself she is only a 6 with beer goggles on. For the past few releases, we've had to look at Madden with a different perspective. The sim community has to install 30 million different rules it seems to make these games playable. Sometimes those rules have to negate some real life philosophies which sometimes drives me up a wall.
Just think about it -- if the game respected football principles their would be no such thing as sim or freestyle -- just guys (and gals) playing football. Instead of having the game compared to Hiroshima, lets compare it to the Berlin Wall and knock down the sim/freestyle barrier with a fundamentally sound game? Sounds like a plan to me -- from what I've gathered, Madden '13 is that wrecking ball -- we'll see... we will certainly see.
*Don't take anything in my blogs personal -- I'm honestly just trying to learn how to blog. Gotta start somewhere, right?

The only "Hype" that's going to work for me is what I read here at OS AFTER the game has been out for at least a month. That's the test.
