Take A Stand Against Madden
Posted on August 1, 2014 at 10:59 PM.
I see this year after year, people begging for the EA/NFL license to expire and for someone else to get a chance to make an NFL game. Then when the game comes out, most people buy it anyways. So this year I urge you, if you are on the fence or if you want another company to get a chance to eventually make a football game, take a stand with your wallet. Do not buy Madden. I can tell by the little bit of gameplay that I've seen that it is almost the exact same game that we've gotten the past 9 years.

Player models, jerseys, everything still isn't up to par graphically unless you zoom in all the way. The gameplay is still jerky, you can still see that once the ball carrier is being tackled that physics goes out the window.

If Madden is ever going to be good, it needs competition to push the development team. Competition brings out the best in people and that's what we need as consumers.

We shouldn't be charged $60 year after year for essentially the same game and we should stop being foolish enough to shell out that money. If you eventually have to give in to the football itch, buy it used for goodness sake. I'm just sick and tired of this, I'm not saying I want 2K (though I'd like to see them get another shot), I want ANYBODY to step up and give it a shot. Rant over.

I do want competition (in all sports games) but not enough to skip this years release. To me I feel they have made significant strides over the past few years. Is it a perfect game? Of course not but it is not as bad as some make it out to be. Best of luck though in your protest.

It's not a bad game. Just some Competition would be good for the series. Spending 2 weeks to share whos the best at each position and there rating seems like an roster update. I guess I would just like to see the step up and I'm in awh!

I agree with you in theory Jake, but any sports gamer who loves the NFL will be tempted to buy Madden bc of our love for the NFL and videogames in general. If the only intersection of those 2 parties was "Inkcil NFL Pixel Football in 8-Bit Glory featuring incremental upgrades" it would sell like hotcakes. So basically IMO what you really ask is for people to take a stand against the NFL. It's just not gonna happen. NFL is just too exciting and fun. It is our National Pastime, Present-time and Futuretime.

Jake, I'm in. Been doing this since Madden 08. What I would say to people who are too tempted to buy the game is to buy it used so EA doesn't receive $ from the purchase.

I personally don't understand people though. It's not hard to not purchase the game, extreme fan of football or not. I'm not going to purchase an average game just because I'm a fan of the sport. Makes no sense, that's a waste of $60 for me.

@bxphenom7. To some of us its not just an average game. Some of us aren't looking for exact 100% perfection and can accept it for being a video game. To you Madden is a waste of $60. To me I get my money's worth playing a quality football experience. That's the beauty of this country neither of us is forced to buy it, it is our own individual choice.

Nothing new here really. Sure it would be great if there was competition but there isn't. Hence the stale game play. I still buy the game b/c I usually only play my friends which limits the cheesiness of the game b/c they play Sim football not Madden. It makes a big difference. Also when I buy it I look for the steepest discount either online or used or whatever. I never pay retail. $30-40 bucks sure why not. I've spent more than that on bad food.

I'm skipping it. I know enough people won't skip it to matter but I'm not getting this game.

I get it that some of you guys want to get it because it's tradition and hell, it's football after all! All I'm saying is, if you do have to give in to temptation or whatever, just get it used. I will definitely never buy Madden new again (if I ever buy it again at all... which is unlikely). Don't help them make money is all I'm saying. The more money they make, the more inclined they'll be to keep re-releasing the same game with a roster update and minimal (and I do mean minimal) improvements.
This conversation comes up year after year and I've had enough of people just talking about it. Walk the walk! Don't help the EA suits, show them that they need to make a quality product! Show the NFL that the gaming industry thrives on competition and that we need that competition back in football gaming!

Anyone who buys a game that isn't good because of "tradition" needs help in money management.

Good brother it took me many years to get over the ghost of 2k and in many ways I am still not over it. 2k was such a strong game and ahead of its time and put madden on blast. I still have moments when I look at 2K14 and I think oh my if they were still in the football business Madden would've gone the same way as the NBA live series.
I have since made peace that this is the best I'm going to get to cure my yearly football addiction. I suggest you do the same because me and you can boycott this years game but 10 million other people are still going to buy it. I am encouraged more than other years by this years edition at least its starting to look more next gen and they are slowly addressing some of the more glaring issues. It still sucks though to think 10 years and 2 systems later but I don't want to go down that road again. lol

@Sheba2011 Lol, is there any country that makes you buy a particular video game?

# 13 SIR924 @ Aug 5
It's a great idea, but this comes down to personal choice. Competition would be good, and that too doesn't guaranty the game we are looking for. I think most of us try it to see if we can enjoy it most of all because it's football season. And remember it's just a game that's used for fun! But good luck!

Last year I bought for the first time in years. I won't be buying again simply because of the pompous attitude of EA in regards to laying out a "challenge" to 2K. While knowing they(EA)had exclusivity.

to the people that complain, have you played tecmo bowl, the very first madden? come on now. you cant possibly not like the current madden. just say you dont like EA or something or you just want a new company to make football games. dont say madden is just plain terrible.
