My negatives of 2K12
Posted on October 16, 2011 at 02:07 PM.
Let me start by saying, NBA 2K12 is a very good game. However, that is as far as I will go... a very GOOD game. The negatives are what make it a good game, rather than great.

Passing is atrocious. Passing with the A button, is even worse; when you use LS + A, they hardly ever pass it to the right person. Way too many floating passes, and the turnovers are way too high.

The CPU gets away with WAY too much contact. They can shove you out of bounds when you drive baseline, they can knock you down to the ground numerous times and there are no fouls called. However, if they go up for a shot, God forbid you press Y to try and contest/block a shot, because even if their shot is not affected, the foul WILL be called.

The game still has instances of quick, spastic type movements.

The AI still has the force field type feel to it on defense.

The AI's offense is idiotic. Greg Oden just did an escape dribble jumpshot on me from right inside the three-point line, and obviously missed it. They regularly wait til the shot clock gets down to 1 or 2 seconds to shoot and they are usually horrible quality shots.

Every player should not have access to every type of shot. Not everyone should be able to do a spin shot, escape dribble shots, etc.

Some of the controls should have stayed the same, IMO. Like spin layup/dunk should just be pointing RS away from basket like last year.

I agree my G hate how even Tyson Chandler can do the "Dream Shuffle" and centers have the ability to do spinning layups.Joel Anthony even hit three with 1 second left i had to quit the game it's so unrealistic sometimes. But the biggest thing is pump faking and the CPU crazy defense i hope a patch is in the works they need one fast.

I agree with much of this. However, everyone SHOULD have access to all types of shots, they just should not do them. Could a big guy do an escape dribble pull-up in real life if he tried? Yes, but he would (should) be unsuccessful.

i was playing the nba greatest mode on sim settings and shaq made 2 20 footers in the game once to tie the game and send it into overtime and another to win the game...

@Shinyhubcaps Yeah, I guess that would work too, I just wish they wouldn't attempt them as much as I'm seeing them. Another thing that irks me is that when the CPU is in your VICINITY, your player will change his shot to something ridiculous, even without the contact. Mario Chalmers should not affect a DH12 layup attempt, and if someone bumps Dwight, he shouldn't bring the ball down in front of their face so they can easily block it. I'm seeing the same old canimations as past years and it's irritating. I don't affect the CPU nearly as much as it affects me in mid-air collisions. Even if you get bumped in the air, you should still have the same look as a normal layup, you will just be moved to the side some and it will be a harder angle to make the shot.

Another thing I've noticed today is that they went overboard with momentum. Everything has momentum and along with passing, if you pass with A while someone is moving it will either make them go out of bounds, back court or the ball will go through their hands out of bounds. It's like your team is full of idiots and the other team can do no wrong sometimes. With how much they built up this game over the past few months, I must say after playing it for a couple weeks, I am a little less than impressed, and for me, they left a huge opening for EA.

For me, it seems this game was built more for fast breaks and not so much for half court. I still find it difficult to do some of the dribble moves in a small space. I try to spin or go around the back and my guy ends up running in a circle. I try to do a simple cross over when I drive to the basket and my guy does a hesitation and then cross over.

I suggest you guys play on the PRO/DEFAULT settings in 2K12. Many have expressed satisfaction playing in this level. Try it.

Word bro! Passing is hideous and a coronary waiting to happen for me. Rebounding is disheartening because my team is never around the rim for offensive boards. The computer can make real life, thread the needle and length of the court passes. I try it and it's a turnover. The CPU is not affected by my defender and can dunk from any angle. Me, my man is "bumped" and it changes his shot. Why can't the have my CPU guys play like the computer? That would balance out most of these issues. It's still a good game with excellent bells and whistles.

this is what i noticed in 2k11 last year & its also in 2k12 & in my opinion its 1 of he major things holdin the game bak...When playin the cpu on higher difficulities superstar & hall of fame (OH BOY) the cpu CANCELS most of the annimations they perform to make it seem like they are a step ahead of u & its basically CHEATIN.. U have to pay CLOSE attention to acually notice this... The game is still good in my eyes tho but this & the passing system which is HORRIBLE needs 2 b fixed & this game can b even greater than what it already is & THATS SCARY for EA & that garbich live/elite game they worki on
