I saw in an article today where Deron Williams said in a recent interview that more of the stars would be willing to play long-term overseas if the owners get there way. One of his quotes was "If a guy like Kobe Bryant is only making 11 million a year, I could see more guys playing overseas long-term." At least that was pretty close to what it said that I can remember.
Is anyone else offended by this? I mean, ONLY 11 million? You know how many people would kill to be making 11 million dollars in one year?!?!
And really, you're telling me a grown man cannot budget his money wisely enough to be able to live off of that?
My parents make around a combined $50,000 a year and these guys are whining about 11 million? Cry me a river.
To me, an athlete, who gets paid to play with a ball (though don't get me wrong, I love my sports and I love watching my favorite athletes) should make a maximum of MAYBE 5 million a year, if not less.
Think about it, these guys make more than people who put their lives on the line every day. They make more than people in the military, policemen, and firemen. They make more than teachers (who don't make nearly enough, these guys wouldn't be anywhere without them) and for God's sake they make more than THE PRESIDENT!
This is just my opinion, but statements like this make the players and the owners look like a bunch of snotty, greedy punks.
I understand that the league makes a lot of money every year, but would it be so crazy to donate a couple large portions of money every year to things like starving children, cancer research, the humane society, or other things of that nature.
They all sound like Latrell Sprewell...
Just my two cents...
