The NBA (not the video game, the real thing)
Posted on July 1, 2011 at 08:15 PM.
I have a few things that I wish the NBA would implement while in this lockout (nothing really financial will be in this).

1. I wish that every team would have AT LEAST 2 minor league teams similar to the baseball system. More and more people are entering the draft nowadays but there are only 60 picks. That is A LOT of talented players that do not get to play again (unless they go overseas) that were very good players at the college level.

Think about it, the NBA could finally go back to having 7 rounds of picks, which in turn would provide more opportunities for those hidden gems in the late rounds that nobody was thinking about.

These guys wouldn't have to go on the rest of their lives thinking "what if" because even if they never made it past "single A," they would at least get to say they were drafted and they played professionally.

2. Implement baseball's draft rules. Meaning, it is fine to enter the draft out of high school, BUT if you choose to go to college, you must stay a minimum of 3 years. Not only would this provide more people with a college education (many more people choosing to stay 4 years) but it would help out the college game, as well as the NBA. Less people would be entering the draft, therefore fewer veterans would be shown the door and kicked out of the league. The college game would prosper because fans love watching guys go from timid freshman to upperclassmen that are leaders and captains. It's a win-win.

3. Bring back the 80's & 90's style basketball. Do you wonder why the league is hurting? Because people don't want to tune in to watch players whine about every little call. If you weight lift every day, and you are in peak physical condition, you can take a little contact. By the looks of it a lot of the guys couldn't last out on the blacktop when the rules are, "If there's no blood, it isn't a foul." I understand that they wanted to clean up after the Malice at the Palace, but it was one isolated incident, one time. Get over it. Not every hard foul is a flagrant, let some contact go, they are grown men. If they get injured, guess what, no one was holding a gun to their head making them play, they chose to.

I agree with you, especially about the draft. The draft needs to be improved a ton. It's nothing like the NFL or NHL drafts. Another thing I would add to your list is getting rid of the whole thing where players are drafted by teams to be traded to others right away. Make it like the NFL or NHL draft where they annonce the trade before the pick is made, and then the appropriate team makes the pick. Saves a whole lot of confusion in my opinion.

Very true, it's hard to keep up with sometimes for me, I'm just sitting there thinking for a minute, "Okay, who is going where and who drafted who?!?!"
