My NBA 2k14 App Review
Posted on November 22, 2013 at 12:53 PM.
Sorry, I'm feeling a little bored and I am in a typing mood so I haven't seen one so I will just post my own. Feel free to leave a comment whether it's on the app or the review.

For those who have downloaded the app already you will understand that this review will be mostly on the MYTeam aspect of the App since 2k and the developer of the app "Cat Daddy Games" have not addressed the login issues with the MYCareer portion of the app. If you have been able to log on leave a comment on how you felt about it.

On with the review, I consider myself a gamer on all platforms Xbox, PC, Play station, and now mobile games. However, card games are left for parties, get together and family gatherings. I have never been a gamer that enjoyed card games....well until today.

The MYNBA2k14 app presents an interesting (and fast paced) way to enjoy playing a card game without feeling like a Pokémon fan (lol no offense to the Pokémon fans). This however unlike the last 2k Basketball app does not rely on your progression and performance via the video game, so for those that do not play MYTeam on the consoles you can dive right in and enjoy this as well.

Much like MyTeam on the consoles when you begin you are given a pack of cards. These cards range from common (meaning you will see them more often) to epic (top tier talent past or present that doesn't show up much if at all (be grateful when you finally grab one). Each card has four categories Offense, Defense, Ball Control and Mental Game. These categories determine who wins the matchup by presenting you with one or a combination of two categories to compete in. You have four quarters to defeat your opponent and if needed overtime (at this point I have gone as high a Triple overtime to win a game).

There are two modes in the MyTeam app the first mode is season mode. Season mode plays much like a coaching sum. You set your line ups, you monitor energy levels for each player, sub players in as starters, sit them on the bench, place them in an inactive slot so they can regain energy as the games progress, train, or even trade players for cards you have gained through the exhibition mode. But be warned you can only make 5 trades throughout the season, so trade wisely.

In season mode your goal is, of course, to get to the Finals and win it all. And yes, the Season is very fast paced. I downloaded the app on Monday and as of Thursday night I had already played through an 82 game season and swept all my opponents on the way to a Finals trophy. At the end of each season you are rewarded whether you made the playoffs or not. Depending on where you finish your season determines what your reward will be.

I found myself paying very close attention to my season and found it even more exciting when we made the playoffs. Like I said this is basically a coaching sim the only way you can actually sway the game in your favor is to put the best players on the floor and in the backup roles so that you can increase your stats as a team.

While the season mode is very fun, what kept me coming back was the exhibition mode. In this mode you have four quarters to defeat your opponent by having the highest amount of points in a single or a combination of the four categories. Win and you get an energy card and two drafts picks. Lose and you get one draft pick. Be aware of the cards you pick, if you pick a card that is a duplicate of a card you already have you can combine it for huge boosts to that card. These cards can also be used to train other player cards you have in your collection. You also have support cards which can give one player or all five players on your current starting five a boost or can take away points from one player or all five players on the opposing team. You can only use these cards once per game; unless you go into a 2nd overtime where all the cards will reset and your starting 5 are once again available.

Overall I give this app a 7.5.

While I do enjoy the app I can't actually give this app anything higher due to the fact it is incomplete. MyTeam is very fun and very good for wasting time. My2k14 app does require you to be connected to the 2k Network so make sure your mobile data are connected or you are connected to wifi.

Since this is only my second review I have ever written and the first for OS, please feel free to leave a comment on the app or the review. Any criticism will be taken into consideration thanks.
