State of FANdemonium
Posted on February 8, 2012 at 02:45 PM.
As a fan of Most sports and former player I have learned how fickle fans can be and have experienced this first hand. But, this is getting to the point where its becoming embarrasing to even call myself a fan.

ESPN Rick Reilly wrote a report on how Patriot fans and sport writers have completely turned on the Pats. This is the same team that was (according to the court of public opinion) considered to be the team of the DECADE. The team that embodied the word teamwork and made nobody's household names. But to see people say "Fire Belichick, trade Brady, and kill Welker". WES WELKER of all people. Look, I am not a Pats fan other than the fact I admire Bill Belichick's coaching philosophy, skills, and the way he handles the media by being a man of few words, but this is extremely uncalled for.

I have never really been impressed with Brady. I am still a strong advocate that without Vinateri, Brady would be another run of the mill starting QB with amazing stats. I am sorry he just doesn't blow me away because of the system he is playing in, I am not saying he is a system QB, but there is no other comparison except for College and if you watched Brady 6 that shows plenty of QB's in College can shine. But he has been successful in Belichick's system. But to call for his head its extremely absurd.

As we all have seen with "The Decision", fans emotions are hurt very easily. Not to say they can't get over it but a large amount of people are holding on to hatred and disdain for people they don't even know. I am still a Lebron fan I don't like the way he handled that dreaded summer but he has to look out for his best interest. The Pats on the other hand just simply couldn't get it done in crunch time for what the first time in a while.

We as fans need to step it up and drop the personal vendetta's we have towards players. It's not a problem to dislike a player because he plays for a rival or he beat your team but, once he takes off that jersey he is the same as me and you and techincally he's the same on the field too (except Suh I don't know who he is inside a Lions Jersey).

It's almost as if Brady raped women and children and pillaged a nearby settlement that was already hard up for resources. I am still confused with the Welker comments. I have played at Wideout and coached, for anyone that has played wideout you know it's one simple philosophy "If you touch the ball, you can catch the ball" but that's not always the case the ball was a bit high, a little behind, and Welker made a great attempt at trying to catch it. You can't blame crunch time because (ala Eli Manning) players careers are made and stained by crunch time decisions and plays. But it was a tough catch to make.

I still believe if Gronk was in the game we would be seeing a different score. And I am glad to hear that no one is blaming him for this lost YET. But as a fan of sports I am seeing the fun taken out of sports because fans live and die by their teams success. I have even spoken with Cowboy fans and as much as some hate Romo I have yet to hear them say "Kill Romo," hey I could be wrong but I have heard some of these same people defend him even when he screws the pooch.

Fandemonium has taken a new look and the maturity of it is at a all time low. Teams win and teams lose. I know I am preaching to the choir here at OS but it's rather ridiculous to see others act like this and I believe the level headed fans here can help with this. Do your team a favor and quiet the knuckleheads that cheer when their team is up and act like three years old when they lose.

Thanks for reading.
