To Own a Fantasy Team or Not to Own a Fantasy Team?
Posted on May 12, 2013 at 01:38 PM.
I love fantasy baseball. The numbers, oh the numbers. As much as I love it, I'm starting to wonder if I love the no strings attached, stress-free mindset that goes along with not owning a fantasy team even more.

For the first time in years, I chose not to have a fantasy baseball team.

The result?

I'm getting more enjoyment out of the baseball season. Rather than dwelling on JHey's 0-4 game, punctuated by striking out in the ninth inning with a runner in scoring position and down by a run, I can now curse at him then move on. I don't have to be reminded of it all night as I stare at the ESPN Live scoring updates on my team page.

I can marvel at the great seasons other players are having without regret. Instead of saying to myself, "I could've had that guy in the fourth round but passed on him for [insert poor draft decision]", then angrily turning off Baseball Tonight thinking about what could've been, I can now watch stress-free. I no longer have ulterior motives when watching games and highlights. I no longer watch to see what my guys did (or didn't do). I can wholeheartedly enjoy.

I'll admit, I'm not as in touch with all the stats this year. I do miss coming up with funny team names that play off my roster. I miss finding information quicker than others to take advantage of the waiver wire. I miss the competition.

However, I do feel more was gained than lost.

Maybe I should do this for football season. Easier said than done on that one.

Any similar feelings out there?
