The Wizards - An NBA 2K9 Association - Character Commitment Connection

To get a head start into my new association I decided to SIM to the current calendar date of December 4th; simming the first 16 games of the season.

My record...not much better than the real Wizards thus far. After simming the first 16 games I'm 6-10, only 3 wins better than the real Wizards, and after my first played gm - a loss to LA which I write about here - my record is now 6-11.

I have NOT fired Eddie Jordan... yet...

Although after this horrendous 124-100 loss to the Lakers @ home, I'm thinking about firing him now.

This one was close for about 8 minutes.

With about 4 minutes left to go in the 1st Qtr LA went on a 14-0 run to go ahead 28-14, and they never looked back from there.

Caron Butler, who is also my favorite player in the NBA, scored the Wizards 1st 6 points, but then went 0-11 in his next 11 shots to finish the 1st half 3-14 w/ still only 6 points; however he did have 5 steals,... and would finish w/ 7.

I never got to the line in this one until the 3rd qtr, and went 0-8 from 3 in the 1st half. I was down by 19 at halftime, was shooting around 35% to the Lakers' 61%, and I was getting dominated on the offensive glass like crazy.

Couldn't seem to take advantage of Kobe going cold for a good portion of this game either, but it didn't really matter since Farmar catched fire from long range - at one point hitting three 3's in a row - Gasol and Bynum crushed me in the paint- both finishing w/ double doubles, and Ariza had a nice game to pick-up some slack.

Gasol was one assist shy of a triple double finishing w/ 19-11-9 assists, also going 9-10 from the field.

Definitely noticed a CLEAR difference in defense w/ the Wizards after much play w/ the 76ers.

Just like the real Wizards, there was constantly a mismatch being exploited, Antawn Jamison was constantly leaving a man wide open and running to him w/ a hand up as if its going to alter the shot, the 3 point line was not getting defended, and the interior D was allowing the paint to get raped.

Since I can't promote Ed Tapscott, after firing Jordan I am going to hire the best available 'Defensive' coach - hopefully the new coach's defensive philosophy will aid my defensive game.

Jamison was the leading scorer for Washington in this one going 10-17, and finishing w/ 28 points and 5 boards. Butler would finish w/ 21 after a horrible 1st half where, again, he finished w/ only 6 pts on 3-14 shooting (ugh!), and DeShawn Stevenson was the only other Wizard in double figures w/ 11.

Nick Young struggled to score, shooting 3-11 for 8 points, and my offense as a whole was just horrendous - Gilbert I need you buddy!

The 2nd half I improved my FG% by 10 percentage points (yay!), finishing at 45% shooting, but LA still outplayed me in all facets of the game and finished 60% from the field.

I did get to the line 17 times in the 2nd half, but only made 10 of those 17 attempts.

I was finally able to knock down a few threes - getting one or two each w/ Jamison, Stevenson, and Young but sitll shot a measly 27% from deep.

The only bright spot in this one was my 17 steals - 7 of which Butler can account for.

However, this can mainly be attributed to the fact that I practiced the day before the game focusing on defense w/ it set to normal for the whole team. So it wasn't as if I was able to pull this one off solely on my team's RAW ability.

Next up, a road game in Chicago...

Hey Stew...thanks for the drop in...I'm gonna ride Caron as long as I can. I went to him early in the LA game, and he started off well and then I missed a couple of shots and next thing you know he was cold. I had him in there too long at times too, and the Gatorade icon appeard. I was still trying to get scoring from him then too, and drove to the lane a couple of times only to see the layup bounce of the rim...Stupid fatigue crap...I understand he's 'tired' but he doesn't have to miss EVERY layup when that dumb little icon appears. I mean if he has enough energy to take someone off the dribble he should be able to finish right??

Anyways...ranting...

I haven't mentioned it in the blog yet, but I'm holding out using Gil until like early-mid Jan. (like IRL), and if I somehow DO make the playoffs that's when I'll bring Haywood back; or maybe late April.

Both of thie morale has suffered, and they're both at 0. Gil's rating is down to an 82 because of it...which honestly I guess is cool, since the low rating will help account for his 'rustiness' when he returns.

I just hope that I can get his morale back up to par...It should get better once he starts getting back into action right?
