NBA.COM has reported a blockbuster deal involving 3 teams.

The deals will be finalized pending physicals.

The trade breaks down like this:

PHI
Vince Carter (From NJ)
Darko Milicic (From MEM)
Jarvaris Crittenton (From MEM)
2nd Rd Pick (From NJ)

NJ
Samuel Dalembert (From PHI)
Mareese Speights (From PHI)
2009 1st Rd Pick (From PHI)

MEM
Andre Miller (PHI)
Josh Boone (NJ)

NBA.COM analyzes the deal...

ForPhilly:
They land a superstar in Carter, but one w/ a HUGE contract and who is getting up there in age @ 32.

With the addition of Carter they add one of the leagues best scorers, and have a 'Big 3' good enough to compete w/ the top 'Big 3's' of the league.

However, Carter has been considered an injury prone player over his career and has historically struggled at times in the playoffs.

His age is another big factor...

Will he continue to play at a high level given his age, and will his play be equal in value to what he is being paid?
This is clearly a win now move for Philly. With a core of Elton Brand, Andre Igoudala, Louis Williams, and Thaddeus Young adding Carter cements Philly, in a lot of minds, as a favorite to topple the division rival and reigning champion Celtics this yr, but what about the future?

What they lose...

Philly loses Sammy Dalembert and Andre Miller, but cuts losses by adding Darko Milicic & Jarvaris Crittenton from Memphis. Darko steps in as a fill-in platoon mate at Center thanks in part to the resurgence of Theo Ratliff. Milicic has 2 yrs left and will be an FA after the 2009-10 season.

Javaris Crittenton moves again, this time to Philly, and is slated to be the potential back-up to Louis Williams for 2009 and beyond if Philly is unable to work-out an extension w/ vet Royal Ivey.

Louis Williams, who has played exceptionally well this yr as Philly's 6th man, and who also started 5 games while Andre Miller was nursing a shoulder injury, becomes the starting PG with the departure of Andre Miller.

Philly gives up a 2009 1st rd pick, which doesn't look to be a lottery pick, but could've landed a very serviceable Center since this years draft is ripe w/ talent at that position.

Philly's Grade B-

For NJ:
W/ a record good for 29th in the league and currently riding a 12 gm losing streak, it was clearly time for a change.

This team was going no-where fast, was saddled with a huge contract with Vince Carter, and is clearly in rebuilding mode after shipping out J-Kidd last yr, and Richard Jefferson over the summer.

Josh Boone, after being placed on NJ's trading block, gets moved to Memphis and with NJ adding a solid Center in Dalembert and a potential All-Star in Speights there was really nothing lost with the departure of Boone.

NJ adds a frontline starter (Dalembert) and a potential All-Star in Speights.

Dalembert is rated an 83 overall and Speights as a rookie is an 80 and an absolute beast too - I was unhappy in having to part w/ him.

The Nets also get under the cap, albeit at only $442K, but nevertheless under the cap. Which is critical if they plan on signing Devin Harris long-term since his contract expires after this season.

We think this is a great move by NJ. They add a solid low-post defender w/ some scoring ability in Dalembert who can start right away which gives their 2008 # 1 pick Brook Lopez time to develop.

Speights has the potential to be a star in this league as long as he remains focused, and many project him to be a perennial All-Star w/ his excellent scoring ability, and above avg defense.

Having depth with some atheletic quality big men, a big part of what the Nets have lacked for many years, gives them the ability to create some nice mismatches in the front court.

Yi Jian-lian is a big-man with a very good perimeter game who could play the 3 and the 4. Speights is already a very good low-post scorer, and good on the defensive glass too. If the Nets guards can continue to develop, and they can get some solid play from their veterans (Jarvis Hayes, Bobby Simmons).

A future lineup of:

PG Devin Harris/Keyon Dooling
SG Chris Douglas-Roberts/Maurice Ager
SF Yi Jian-Lian/Jarvis Hayes/Bobby Simmons
PF Mareese Speights/Ryan Anderson/Sean Williams
C Samuel Dalembert/Brook Lopez/Sean Williams

Could be a surprising team in the East.

NJ Grade B+

FOR MEM:
Some might find this a strange move for Memphis, but according to Philadelphia 76ers GM John Haralson, "[Memphis] was one of the only teams interested in Andre Miller.'

With Conley as the current starter, who has had his ups and downs this season, Miller can come in for half a year and 'mentor' Conley.

Memphis is only a gm back from .500, and are clearly in the running for a 7th or 8th seed in the Western playoffs, adding a savvy veteran PG like Miller is a smart move.

Sixers GM John Haralson...

"It's kind of like the Iverson deal in the sense that if it doesn't work out they still have Conley and Lowry waiting in the wings, and Miller is in the final yr of a $10mil contract so they can choose not to re-sign him and have some cash to spend in the offseason."

Memphis gets rid of Darko who was making $7mil for 08-09, and who still had another yr on his contract. They replace him w/ Josh Boone who many think still has a little upside, and who's contract doesn't hurt your pockets as much as Milicic's does.

W/ Miller on the roster they are about $7.5mil over the cap. W/ him gone they could have $12mil or more to land a star player in this offseason's FA class that could contain the likes of Shawn Marion, Carlos Boozer, Al Jefferson, Allen Iverson, and Ron Artest to name a few.

Very nice trade. But it leaves you with a log jam with Iggy, Thad and now Carter.

Iggy and VC are interchangeable at the 2 and 3. Since VC is the better shooter he'll play the 2.

Yea...Thad's morale took a big dip from 100 to slightly above 75. He's been on a rollarcoaster ride going from role player, to starter, now to 6th man.

He'll remain as the 6th man so long as Carter is on the team. Thad is only 20 so once VC's contract is up, and we part ways, Thad will be the starter again and only 22 or 23 yrs old w/ many years left on his career.

It sure makes the 76ers a real player in the East. Good Luck
