As mentioned in my 1st Blog post I was exploring a 3 team deal between Me (PHI), Indy, and a team to be determined...

After finishing my Utah gm I decide to look into the crystal ball...er...Make the Dunleavy trade happen and see how things would pan out for me.

Here's how the trade went down...

PHI: PG Andre Miller (IND), PF Jason Smith (IND), & 2010 1st rd Pick (IND).

IND: SG Mike Dunleavy (PHI), PG Jamaal Tinsley (MIL), PF Josh McRoberts (MIL).

MIL: PG Damon Jones (IND - $4.46 expiring contract), Adrian Griffin (PHI), 2009 2nd Rd pick (IND).

Dunleavy's morale isn't perfect, but isn't bad yet either. Its hovering around 75/80 w/ his current role/minutes he's getting w/ Indy. That could perhaps degrade as the season goes on since I'm just beginning January.

I think this could be great move for Indiana...They get two expiring contracts totaling roughly $14mil, and Jason Smith's contract could expire should they not exercise his option. Plus they get a 2010 1st rounder - which won't be a lottery pick - but nevertheless is a 1st rd pick.

Altogether it would be around $15 mil total that Indy would have coming off the books. Dunleavy has two more years after 08-09, and his final yr is a payout in the low $10mil range. He'd be 30 when his contract expires, and this team needs more youth IMO.

IRL we all know that Tinsley is on the outs w/ Indy. Moving him to Milwaukee gives the bucks a clear upgrade and starter at point considering Ramon Sessions' contract expires after the season, and the log-jam of PGs they have.

Tinsley's contract will run the longest since he still has 3 years on it. So after 09-10 Lue and Ridnour would be gone, and they'd have more cap room. McRoberts was just a filler given to the Bucks for salaries to match. Same goes for me receiving Adrian Griffin from MIL.

Scouting Dunleavy revealed that if I did make a move for him he would undoubtedly be my best perimeter shooter - ratings wise.

His mid is an 87, and his 3pt is a whopping 94! That's the same 3pt rating as Kareem Rush, but Dunleavy has much MUCH better awareness and rebounding ratings, size too, than Rush.

So like I said...I looked into the crystal ball right...Well after making this pseudo move I simmed out the season.

Would you believe that adding Dunleavy - making him my 6th man and w/ BIG minutes, moving Miller out of town, and moving Louis Williams to the starting PG would make me the East Conf. Champs?! .......

Well it did. Philly finished over Boston by 1 gm 52-30. That means that after my trade for Dunleavy on Jan 1st Philly went 34-17 the rest of the way.

Maurice Cheeks won C.O.Y, and Dunleavy won the 6th man.
I thought I would've won exec. of the yr too, but Detroit's GM won that - Since they got A.I.

The playoffs simmed out like this:
rd1 7 gms beat ATL
rd2 5 gms beat DET
ECF 7 gms beat BOS

NBA Finals lose to SAN ANT 4-1; Tim Duncan Finals MVP.

Adding Dunleavy came w/ a great cost to Thaddeus Young's morale. Young's minutes went from 37 to 28, and Dunleavy was getting 24 minutes. So actually making this move could cost me in the long run...Young is a guy who I really would want to keep, and would want to keep happy. Because he was unhappy about his playing time his OVR dipped from 80 to 78.

I'm still unsure about ACTUALLY making this move happen. Because looking at the crop of talent in the FA pool I wouldn't mind keeping Miller, letting his contract expire, and signing a Ben Gordon, or the best player available to me given my cap room...or just adding depth to my bench, like a better back-up PG than Royal Ivey, and a better back-up SG/SF than Gelabale or Rush.

Only time will tell what I actually do...Dunleavy's perimeter game is enticing, and knowing I'm NOT re-signing Miller is enticing me to trade him ...BUT...his $10 mil + plus the 6 expiring contracts of Jason Smith, Royal Ivey, Chucky Atkins, Kareem Rush, Theo Ratliff, and Mickael Gelabale could provide some NICE cap room to acquire a top talent...Perhaps bring A.I. back, or sign Al Jefferson as my starting C if he doesn't re-signe w/ Minny.

I don't know...what do you guys think?

Chime in on my chalkboard, and tell me your thoughts.

Hold off on the trade. Like you said, you got Andre PLUS 6 other expiring contracts coming off the books as well, to give you even more cap room to make a few moves this offseason. You'll pretty much be doing two things if you hold off: Cap space to help improve the rest of your roster. 2. Setting your team of PERFECTLY for the LONG haul of your franchise and setting them up to be competitive for years to come.
